Gezzah, what part of the lake did you fish? for how long? and what did you use for bait?  Its hard to believe you didn't get a flag! Ive never been skunked on that pond!

I was a little concerned about thin ice so I fished directly below the car park across to the bay where the outflow is.... I was surprised myself that I didn't get a bite but only fished for about and hour and a half.... Was using heavy mediums.

Was there any other people/tracks on the ice?
Title: Re: Any luck yet?
Post by: Gezzah on Dec 14, 2007, 12:50 PM
No in fact I think I might have been the first one out on the ice!! There was enough in my opinion and it was real cold Wednesday and yesterday.

Thanks for the details Gezzah! Hopefully this snow coming doesn't push down the ice too much  :-\

I checked Fern Lake today and fished a few holes for about an hour. Not much hitting there, only had a couple light taps. There is 4 to 6" of ice off the access. I would have gone furthur toward the north end, but was measuring 4" out there. I'll probably go out there tomorrow with a buddy.

Fishfarmer is there any ice in the south end of Dunmore yet??
Title: Re: Any luck yet?
Post by: Fish Farmer on Dec 14, 2007, 02:09 PM
Yes, all the way to the island from what I've heard and probably around 5".

Nice!!!! I assume Fern Lake is small lake just south of Dunmore?? Has that got any nice Pike in it??
Title: Re: Any luck yet?
Post by: Fish Farmer on Dec 14, 2007, 02:24 PM
Yes, Fern Lake is just south of Dunmore. Someone pulled out a 17 lb pike several years ago if the rumors are true, but I think that was probably a bait bucket release. I don't hear or see any other pike caught there, lots of small bass, some decent bass. I jigged a 4 lb bass ice fishing one year. I fish it for panfish. The north end is the weedy end and I think where the big pike was caught.

Sunset Lake in Benson is known for some decent pike, not a lot of them, but over 10 lbs.

nope, it wasn't in the derby. I't had a VT fish and Game tag in its back.

I fished Fern Lake for a couple of hours in the morning before it got too cold for me. I filled the bottom of the pail with decent sized pumpkinseeds and a couple of perch. The bite was slow for here. Ice in the middle was around 5.5 inches, nice and clear.

How much ice at Carmi?

The ice is pretty bad and it was lucky we had a chisel to test where we were walking, there would be a good 6 inches at least in some spots and then in one spot the chisel went right through.... I think a lot of people are going to go through this year with the varying amounts of ice around. Watch for the wet spots you can see from the state park boat ramp that is where it is sketchy. Will be sticking to the small ponds and bays until Trout season starts.

Fished both days this weekend...tough fishing weather wise....cold and wind out of the east.

Fished Northerns on the south end of the sandbar on saturday till 1 or so.  Only one flag...just wind i think...no fish and good bait movement.  Fished on about 6 inches out to about 4 inches...open water was only 100 yrds away.

Moved up to St. A bay in front of the bay store, fished till dark for perch, caught 25 or so 6 - 10 inch fish, enough to eat that night...good ice..6 inches or so.

Sunday fished west side of St. A bay about 1/3rd of the way up the bay from the bridge... fished on 4 inches till about 2 when the ice started to sink due to the weight of the snow.   No fish for me on sunday.

I am fishin for northerns...or anything that bites...using big shiners from dockside.  Bait looked great, lots of life and stayed active all day.  Good size too had bait from 4 - 6 inches in size.

Low fish numbers for the opening weekend but it was still nice to get out... Hopefully this snow will blow off and we can get out on to more places for this week/weekend.

Tight lines

DA
