Live Suckers, Dead salted Suckers, Cup bait, etc? What seems to work the best on tip ups for lakers?

I would personally stay away from the salted bait and use either live suckers, or dead fresh suckers split open and layed on bottom. If there is a population of smelt in the lake I would fish larger ones the same way as suckers.
