Used water proofing on my braided lines today

was reading how bad water stays on braid, so shot mine up with water proofing spray. i use REEL MAJIC on my summer reels, so thought i would give this product a shot. its called ATSKO spray

tomorrow will make the 24 hour dry time, so will be testing then

Hmmm eagerly awaiting results.  My Braided lines are from 1988 They hold water very well now

so far so good
comes up coated with water and comes off in your fingers and the line is dry under the water
what i was expecting

Sounds good.  I have a Spray can of "CAMP-DRY" I am sure it is silicone based.  Also as a FYI I have Black and Green Dacron from 1988 and the Black has held up better then the Green, seems the Green holds more water and freezes faster above water.  Bless

Just curious, does this stuff leave any kind of residue etc on/in the water?

If your reel (on the tip-up) is under water anyway, why would it matter?  My reels never freeze while under water, and at night I bring them in to dry by the heater/woodstove.  My line is 40+ years old on some tip-ups.  Just dont store them where they cant dry off.

nothing like sheen or otherwise on water surface.
i am using asso lines only, but the braid is sinking 10# strength/1# diameter
just make sure to give enough dry time. will be doing this to my casting reels next. i use 30# braid on them

we are talking braid line on reels on rods, not tip ups. i don't use tip ups. too slow and nothing to watch and i wouldn't eat what they might catch in the waters i fish. then some are the just the opposite and never see rods in their hands

Here In MA we are allow 5 lines. So i usually do 4 tilts and jig. Always jigging when not tending tilts.

Once  I locate the fish jigging, the tilts get moved into the area.

Just curious what your fishing for that you cant catch on a tip up?

michigan is allowed 3 lines. i stay busy with one, but at times i might add a dead stick for gills when the bite is slowed
where i fish, i only eat gills, but catch crappie and bass.
i want hands on fishing tho. waiting on a flag is not fishing to me. what tip ups catch are not what i eat where i fish. so three reasons i don't use them

none of my buddies use them either and we all have them.

like i said, i know some people only fish that way and no fishing poles in sight, ever. friends i have that live on lakes set traps and watch on the couch waiting on a flag. that is their style and must be fun for them or they wouldn't do it

Ahh yes, Gills could be tricky on tip ups.

we can catch maybe 100 on a real good day, depends on lake. better fish not near as many. hand size are nice for us here and red ear is what i am trying to catch

so....what did you guys find as far as fish hitting the lines after you waterproofed them?  I would think the strong smell would spook them off.

no smell after it dries. also, i use a floro leader 1.5# for pans
the water sticks on the outside of the line, like mono does and mono is water proof too. so you have the same problems other than the inside of the braid is dry. will be nice for open water casting to not be water logged
