I have tried for both of them, but i can't tell you where to go because i got skunked, i have been told that zelma is a very inconsistent place to fish, somedays you can go out there and catch lots and other you will catch none. But that is just what i heard and it could not be true at all.

fish nut,  Grassie used to be great for Burbot. Used to catch 15 to 30 each a day, also some small pike but mainly went there for the "prairie lobster". There are lots of lakes right close to Grassie, D'amour, Eagleback, Martins, Iroquois, Memorial, ect.
Go to www.thickwoodhills.com, if this site still works they have a map of the area that shows where some of these lakes are.

The burbs are easy to catch when around. Try dead ripe bait, minnow or smelt.Fish right off the bottom, a pick rig is good. Best time to catch them is at sunrise and sunset.Again dead bait,no movement and ripe bait, the smellier the better seems to work. The tail section is boneless and when you boil it in salted water(i like to add a bit of sugar also)and then saute in garlic butter you have a treat that's hard to beat.Start fishing close to shore but as the day gets brighter move out a little deeper.

APU Garcia; have you fished at Grassie this season?
Can you get into that lake in the summer with a fishing boat?

I don't think you can get in there in the summer, the farmer that owns the land around the lake isn't very "friendly". No, I haven't been there for a few years. Fishing for Burbot is the easiest fish there is, tip-ups and a smelt, they are scavangers. First sun and last sun of the day are prime, night can produse many fish as well. Burbot are soooo goood to eat!!!!  PRAIRIE LOBSTER!!!!!!!

Have either of you fished the Hanley reservoir?  My brother and I used to go when he was still in University and we'd usually catch a few pike.  In fact is was better than I'd expected.  I had never even heard of the place.

I used to fish hanley all the time back in the eighties.  it is a very easy place to locate the fish as there is a creek that runs through the whole reservoir.  on the south end by the steep mud banks the creek runs very close to shore and it gets deep quick , it also gets shallower on the far side of the creek . I have seen many largew pike as welll as some good perch caught in this location.  I have heard there is still good pike in the lake but i have not heard any reports on the perch fishing in the lake.
I would think it would be worth a try . I will post if I hear anything . thanks and good luck to all.
