Thank you for every one who voted. I’m sorry if the guy’s who voted for Sunday can’t make it Saturday the 24th. I hope you all can make it the last time we had the derby it was fun.
Now we need to pick a lake I will only keep this open until next Sat 17th.The lakes will be
Cranberry Lake
Lake Hopatcong fishing by Dow
Lake Hopatcong fishing by State park
Lake Musconetcong
Twin Lakes

Please everyone please only vote for one lake.
Just remember anyone entering the derby should be a registered member so if you are bring a friend sign them up ... kids excluded

Shawn called Laurie at Dows and we have the OK for parking if this is where we have it.

Actually I called Laurie from DOWS and she told me to let her know if we are definately going to have the to tourney there. She will let the people know at the Jefferson House that we will all be parking there.

Rob I had asked Shawn to help with this years derby and I appreciate your help. In the future please contact Shawn or myself as I'm sure Laurie doesn't need multiple inquiries about our derby.

After you posted you talked to Laurie from DOWS . I called her to make sure were we can park & other info that Doug might call Dow about. But thank you for helping on the parking

Starting time will be at 7:00 AM sign up's will be at 6:30 until I think 8:30. Rules will be posted next week with some of the prizes Doug & I are working on getting. Stop time will be around 1 or 2. We will have a fish table setup so we can measure anyones fish & we will have a whole there if you want to release the fish. Again if you are bring anyone other then KIDS they have to be signed up.

since the knee deep cancled their contest on lake hopatcong, obviosly it's not safe. think we should rethink the lake for our?

I agree in a way..Dows is right off the main lake in deep water....

i dont think theirs a problem with safe ice its that alot of the knee deep guys use snow mobiles and atvs and they want to be able to shoot across the lake im sure if you call dows lourie will tell you their is over a foot in the coves and 6-8 in on the main lake

we didnt call the club do to members, we called the contest due to the state police telling us to call it. due to lack of safe ice. not cause club members want to "shoot" across the lake. and yes, it's safe out infront of dows, but there's open water out there too. with this past snow you cant tell what's open and what's not. we should probably rethink the lake. just a safety precaution out of respect for the members of the site, no?

If the lake is not safe we will not have it.I will be fishing by Dows tomorrow & will check it next thusday. If it is safe we will have it at Dows. If you do not think it is safe for you then you do not have to fish. If Hopatcong is not safe then no lake will be safe like Musconetcong Papa Dukes

Again this derby is safety first but if you don't feel safe you don't have to go the ice has to be safe for us to go!

;)there is plenty of ice in dows cove.we cut 50 holes between my son and i and
there is atleast 9 inches.that cove is big enough and holds plenty of fish also.

The ice out in front of Dows, into the cove and across to the other side going towards Chestnut is all about 12 inches thick with a hard crusty snow on top, maybe a couple of inches. None of the open water here as of today has frozen over so it is clearly visible.( With this wind it probably won't freeze over. )Closer to the open water areas ice was maybe 5 inches this past Monday. Guys over the weekend walked from Dows around to the Jefferson House and Nolans Point and across to Chestnut with no problem. The State Police here will never tell you the ice is safe even if it is 2 foot. KDC cancelled the contest because of all the open water with the possibility that if it did freeze by Sunday it would not be safe. There is also open water coming out from the State Park in several spots, and all out in front of Bertrands Island and from here it looks all open on the Ridge side also. As for the State Police telling KDC not to have the contest, that was not why the decision was made. I'm sure if it is a nice day, there will still be 100's of people out there. I do know that the police were hassling one KDC member in the deli the other day about a decision. They can be jerks sometimes...KDC did hold their contest that year the guy drove his snowmobile into the open hole by the islands, but more of the lake was locked up than it is now. Just better to be safe than sorry!
