hey ShawnM-
i live in sparta too.  just took ride down to budd lake to see what i'll be standing on this saturday morning at 6AM.  there's a solid one inch by the beach by dock's marina.  hopefully will have 2 inches by sat morning.  that clear black ice is still a little creepy even at 5 or 6 inches.  cheers!

Red eSox,
First man I have to say it you need a new name The RED SOX  :'( :P. Come on now Yankees all the way ;D. Where do you live in Sparta I'm on RT 517 past Perona Farms. I will wait until there is 5 + inches of ice to go so next week & weekend I'll be out on my lake & other lakes around. If you want to hook up just let me know.

I agree...his name is pretty creative but he is in Yankees country(or the Mutts,i mean Mets)
I guess its ok though as long as i dont have to stare at a "B" on his ski cap HAHAHAHA...

All kidding aside i was hoping to be on Budd by the 26th...might have to wait till Super Bowl Sunday weekend though.

Speaking of the SB...can i sign up for the Colts vs Saints right now? Unless my Giants were playing to me the SB is amatuer hour, kind of like New Years Eve to drinkers, but i would be into a NO vs Indy game...that matchup would have alot of juice.

Sorry for going off topic,im just climbing the walls hoping for at least some kind of ice season

yeah, yeah,  i hear it all the time about the red sox.  still surprised they actually won the big one while i'm alive.
i'm just off 517 across rt 15.  actually a small development off rt 620 from rt 517 as you head back into town.
me and three other buddies go out saturday mornings.  sometimes another 2-6 people may show up various times throughout the day.  usually to budd lake in the beginning of the season, then hopatcong, then back to budd lake at the end cause the ice stays a bit longer there.  here's a few pics i post on my website...   http://www.1rhino.com/fishing.html

Yes it is private my son's friend live on it. We fished it this past summer & did very good. Maybe I will try to ice fish it if they allow it. 99% of the lake in Sparta & Andover are private Mohawk has a ton of fish  ;D I did great there & same with Fox Hollow. I belong to Lenape I hope to be on it next Sat

On the way to work today drove past Jersey City Res. in Boonton and there was some ice out there, not fully locked up, but maybe 40% thin ice. Figuring north and west lakes should have gotten a good start last night. Another big pond on the way to work was locked up. Anyone happen to see anything driving around today?

Farrington Lake is right down the road from where I work.  There is skim ice in the back coves there.

Checked out Furnace Lake at 4:50 PM...  The skim ice that was there yesterday is all gone.  Soppose to be windy tonight and tomorrow so that is not going to help cause much.

Drove by Budd Lake today around 4 o'clock.  Was surprised to find that it was iced over with the exception of the middle of the lake.

Shawn-

Good idea.  I am in Central Jersey so we have diddly-squat here for ice now.  I'm glad when you guys up North let us know how the ice is.  It is much appreciated.  Do you fellows think that by Saturday 1/27/07 most lakes in North Jersey will be safe?  I like to go to Cranbury lake and sometimes Lake Musconetcong.  Thanks for any help.
