looking good
« on: Nov 23, 2013, 05:57 PM »
Thursday all lakes at High Point had skim ice around the shore --and tonight it's snowing enough to cover the deck up here in Sussex Co.
Tomorrow Arctic blast coming thru--can't wait!!!!

The pond next to my house has been locked up since Monday.  If it wasn't only a foot deep, I'd probably be on it Saturday.  I'm sure we'll see some warmer weather but this cold blast sure does get me excited and it'll push me to get my gear ready to go.

Only 1/4 -1/2" of ice on my first ice pond, if only this cold would last an extra few days I would be on it in no time

@)Three quarters of the big lake in Scenic Lakes has skim on it as of yesterday. It's also deep at twenty eight feet. The waters cold enough, the nights are right for it,  ;) it's the warm during the day that keeps it transitioning and keeps it from setting up for the Real Deal. With some luck, it may happen before 12/20.

Okay you guys got me going !  :icefish:

I usually have my ice gear ready right around Halloween but this year I've been late. I just put all my open water and boat gear away and started on the ice gear.

Just looking at the forcast, snow is the last thing we need.never good to insulate the ice when its thin, the cold nights have no effect on it then. Amazing how  much 1" of snow insulates

The little ice we have will be gone by next weekend. Snow on open water helps freeze it. With some cold will be on 3 inches in 2 weekends since the ponds had thin ice already. If anything hope that doesn't rain too much so that warm water doesn't flow in.

Looks like some cold weather is moving in after this week. Hopefully the long term forecast is right. I already scratched the itch though, got out on the ice yesterday and today. It's great having family and friends up in New England. I can usually get an early start to the season.

Still had 2" of ice on my local pond as of 11am, if only we had one more day of cold weather I could of at least started to scratch that itch for a day or two.

I'm on a small (100 acre) private lake that's been frozen over since Friday.  I don't want to rush first ice, I've got a week of hunting coming up, but I won't be upset if it's safe on say 12/14.  ;D

The FOG ate my ice!   >:(

What little skim we had at Scenic Lakes three miles out of Hamburg NJ is KA-PUT.

Well it's still early, and the nasty is coming. Before Christmas would be a gift to remember.

Cross you fingers and sacrifice a BEER to the ice gods. Ya never know.

Hopefully the forecast is right. If it ice we could be on the ice by next weekend. My bait tanks are full, now it's just a waiting game.
