Parasites in panfish
« on: Jan 11, 2011, 09:00 AM »
What are the white worms in panfish (sunnies, perch, crappie)?  Are they parasites and are the fish that have them safe to eat?  I hope so, because I just pop them out with the tip of my knife and cook them well.  The fish are to tasty to waste.  Hope someone has some info so I can no worry so much.

I scan read the article from your link. I like to have the panfish raw as sushi. I also give my scraps from cleaning fish to my cat. You think that's harmful, or just extra protien?   :)

Here is some good info http://www.seagrant.umn.edu/fisheries/parasites  best way is to freeze the fish (after cleaning) for at least 48 hrs.   No sushi for me !
