Take a rope and tie yourself in. Be safe anyway.

Stopped by a small pond in Vernon this morning to pull my bait trap.  There was a good 2" of ice on the pond.  Another couple of cold nights should make most of the small stuff safe

3 1/2 inches over 1200 feet. 2 1/2" black and 1 inch of white on top. No safe ice under 1100 feet. Open water even then on anything over a couple acres.

alot of ice broke up here in northwest NJ too.........most of the small stuff still has a coat of ice on it.  Hopefully these temps the next few days wont kill it.  It is suppose to drop into the teens at night later in the week....maybe by next week if we're lucky

if there is still a skim of ice on the ponds then the wind wont hurt it but help it but if there open again it might be awhile before we see ice again >:(

that was short lived,  :-\  warm temps and rain made it open up and only cover half that pond with floating skim

I just saw ten day forcast for Hewitt,   won't get above 34 deg.  It's looking really good  right now,  let's hope the weatherman is right this time around!

If the weatherman are right I will be out on the ice on Christmas Eve. Might have to go to the smallest and most secluded ponds I know or just head North. I wonder if there is that much of a difference from the ice thickness in Sparta(where I live) compared to Monksville or Turtle. I still think the small lakes/ponds around Hopatcong/Sparta area will have 3"s in a week but we'll see.

KDS it's more about elevation then direction. I had safe ice not 10 miles from Sparta on a pond last saturday at about 1200ft. Thou Monksville north of the causeway just might have ice this weekend.

I live 5 minutes from the park I will check it out on saturday between deer hunting. There is a small 1 acre pond in the back yard that is locked up though so it shouldnt be long now. Anyone been out near swartswood lake? One day I will catch a walleye out of there. Until then Onieda lake in NY is great for walleye. Anyone ever had any luck with walleye in swartswood?

I have caught a few, but very few, and never through the ice.  Is either lake getting ice yet?
