the rod holders are simple plastic pipe that was used extensively in old wells cut to langth and screwed to the sled and i think they are 1.25 but two rods would not slide in easy so just cut a slit to allow them to fit and they are still snug as can be

Some rod's will fit in 1" some in 1.25 and some in the 1.5" pvc. Just measure the end of your rod's to know which will work best for you.

Just wanted to thank Smitty for his design and for sharing it with all of us!

Built mine yesterday (only mod was using 2x8 for the risers) ready for the Great White North.

No pics cuz I put it to use right away. It is carrying a Frabill Recon DLX loaded w/gear, and what used to be a huffin' puffin' heart attack waiting to happen is now a cakewalk!

Like others I have had to stop and turn around to make sure it was still there! The pond I was on today included AB wind created drifts of 2'-3' and this thing just glides over without issue.

Love It!

Cheers.

Got to wrap up smitty sled(mods never end though!) Need to build a tow bar and debating making a pair of 2x2 runners that clamp on as sacrificial wear bars instead of wheels to run gravel or hard surface to get to ice.
Thanks for sharing smitty! Its appreciated.

Scroll down on this link. Fordkisskrazy put some wheels on his sled. There is a company that makes a set just like this for about $40. I can't find their web site though.

Check out my post on pg 31.  I can switch from wheels to skis (or back) in about a minute.

I like the one were conduit fits under the lip of the tub. I was wondering how to make that where you can have it pivot buy pulling two pins and the tub lays on the ice. Then when your ready to go just lift and replace pins.

If you figure it out post a few pictures. Sounds like a good idea.

Here is my mini/solo smitty. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I think it will work well for solo trips out on the ice! (if we ever get any here in southwest WI)

It helps to have the right tools for the job. All I have is a circular saw and a mitre saw too cut my 2 x 6's. When I cut my notches in the top, I screwed two side pieces together, marked my slot and made multiple passes until the slot was somewhat flat. Then I unscrewed them and mounted them to my skis, placed the cross-members in the slots and drilled my bolt holes. I don't have a wood shop...so I just used what I had.
