I second the bleeding option.  If you compare fillets of fish bled to not bled, the bled ones are considerable whiter
Its better to have hooked and lost than to have never hooked at all - J.B.

Theyre not only visibly whiter but the un-bled fillets tend to have a bit of a "fishy" flavor, its not bad per-say, but for boiling and dipping you get a much cleaner flavor out of a bled fillet.

Interesting thanks all, I have heard them refereed to as "poor mans lobster" and I heard if boiled in 7up they taste most like Lobster. As for the bleeding, many of the commercial lake trout gill netters from the great lakes swear by bleeding lake trout out! I have tried them both ways and it didn't seem to make a huge difference to me... it may be different with different species of fish I suppose.

Ever charter a fishing trip?  They almost always bleed the fish that are being kept to eat.  Doesn't matter the species, just cut the gills before the fish dies and you've got much better table fare.  Even walleye, but especially trout species taste much better after being bled.  It seems to eliminate most of the "fishy" taste in the meat.  Good Fishin' -OH

It touched 14" and the digital scale we had read a bit over 2 lbs...she is still swimming today.  Maybe catch her during the derby;)

Way to go on the release!  I can't see a lure in the picture...is that on purpose, or would you care to share what you were using!?

How much over 2 lbs the state record is only 2.38 lb (2lb 6 oz) it was only 14.35 in (14 in 4 in)
I caught a perch in lake Helena in the summer a couple years ago that weighted 2 lb 4 oz
I drove so fast to get it weighted, I always wondered if it could have lost 2 oz in the drive

No problem at all...nothing fancy here just a green diamond jig and half of a meal worm.  My dad has a pretty accurate digital scale that we have checked vs a certified scale and it read 2.12 lbs.  So no state record but it was still fun to pull out of the hole!!
