Onota or Pontoosuc?
« on: Mar 11, 2019, 10:22 PM »
Ive never fished either of these lakes but heard good things. I caught my first pike this year and looking to add a walleye to that list but really looking for anything worthy of a flag and i am planning a day trip complete with an overnighter on the ice. Which lake would be more suited for this?

Both can be very slow, i feel like you have a chance at more flags at pontoosuc. Pontoosuc has tiger musky, Onota has smelt (off season tho)

First off, neither has walleye from what I know.  I have put in quite a few hours at Pontoosuc over the last few years with almost nothing to show.  Granted, I have been using big bait and fishing for pike/tigers, but I think that place is over-hyped.  I have never been to Onota, but will be doing my late ice there instead of Pontoosucks!

Pontoosic is way over fished.every weekend looks like a derby is going on.onota is becoming the sameway.yes. there is big pike in both ,but i think that much pressure realy puts the fish down.

I have fished both each once so that makes me an expert...  ;) ;D

From my experience and from what I have seen come out of Onota, its where I would go.

Flip a coin. Or why not both? They are minutes apart.

Pontoosuc has tiger musky, Onota has smelt (off season tho)

That is the main difference - otherwise, very similar fisheries
