How is the runoff with the warm spell. In Albany county I am seeing a lot of chocolate streams, little worried about clarity when things do lock up.

Blue line sports shop in Saranac Lake has bait if you do find ice.  The owner said they have pike and perch bait as of last Friday.  I fished 3 days around Thanksgiving, but couldn't find any bait in the area.  A few more cold nights and it should be ready to go around here.

Hey all, new member of the forum here! Thanks for the updates on early ice. Anyone know if fourth lake in the Fulton chain has any ice yet? I’m dying to try for some lakers this year.

I heard Fulton chain iced over last week then got dumped on with snow. So I doubt it will be safe anytime soon

How much snow do you think is currently on the ice?

after the big storm last week, the snow never accumulated on the ice, think the weight of the snow just kept pushing the ice down and melting it?????anyway, even though we got 16+inches of snow, when I went by the lake the next day, there was no snow on the ice,it was just wet and slushy.however,we just had 3 days of warm weather and some heavy rain, which really got the streams flowing, water from fifth lake washed out the shoreline all the way to cedar creek.it looked like it scimmed over last night, but there aint much there.if you want to be safe,i would not even think about it till next week,if you want to be a bone head,go for it!!!!!im sure there will be plenty of bone head snowmobilers who will try it this weekend.also, the 4th lake launch is not plowed,so there is no getting in there until the town opens it up.

Appreciate the early reports.  I'm planning on making my way up there the last weekend in December.  Assuming the big boys (Schroon/George) wont be fishable by then, which lakes should I keep an eye out for? At this point of the season, I'm open to targeting whatever I can catch, but if good ice isn't available over lakers, perch/walleye would be next on my list.  Thanks in advance

Rough edges seem to be an issue even in the early spots!

trackside garage in old forge carries live bait.at least he did last year, just make sure you call him before you go.he is a repair shop and has to run for parts or cars,so he is not there all the time.128 Watson rd,315-369-0024.

Look like nice ones from Eaton. I'd imagine probably 5 inches of mixed quality ice. Maybe more...

It's been rather busy up there with it being mentioned a bit too frequently online.

Nice fish ! Eaton is yet another victim of online ravishing. Sad. I'd stick where you caught those beauties and keep it a secret 🤐
Can I go fishing? Unless it’s on Brant, I can’t.

Share the pic no doubt but no need to suggest where they are from early in the season.

Maybe Eaton is good in early ice...but we went in the middle of the season last year, 4 guys, 7 hours, not a flag or bite.
An esteemed member PM'ed me that he fished the following weekend and had the same results as me, nuttin, not a bite.
So, YMMV!
