Title: FISHING INVITES / FIND ME ON THE ICE
Post by: MountainMan on Dec 11, 2010, 11:32 AM
This thread is meant to serve as a resource for those looking for fishing partners. Feel free to post particulars about yourself (fishing related), or simply invite fellow fishermen on specific upcoming fishing trips you are planning. With enough participation this thread could become a "Go-To" list for those seeking fishing partners with similar interests.

Some suggested particulars you could post about yourself: Geographic location, favorite species, bodies of water generally fished, description of vehicle, what you where on the ice etc...

Disclaimer: Use common sense and proper caution when accepting/offering invites to others. If you are under the age of eighteen (18) posting to this thread is prohibited.

*Please use pm's to reply to posts, and modifying posts vs. creating new ones to help keep the thread as clean and organized as possible ;)

I am a 27 yr old father of 2 boys from Laramie. I mainly fish the Laramie Plains lakes. I have a hand auger, a hut and a few rods to offer. I will fish for anything that swims! Drive a green dodge Neon. Always interested in getting on the lake and fishing with new people

Don, 37 in Douglas.  Perfer perch, crappie, walleye and trout.  Just love to fish.  Glendo is not iced up yet, so willing to travel for ice and some pointers or company on new waters is appreciated.

  Howdy Don...say I can get loose during the week for some hardwater entertainment. Another nut for icefishing,I fish for walleye mainly and catch all others on accident. When the crappie and perch are going thats a blast too, and even like a good cat occasionally.

My name is Christine Peterson and I'm the outdoor reporter for the Casper Star-Tribune. I'm based in Laramie and wondered if any of you were getting together if I could come along for a story on ice fishing near Laramie.
Shoot me an e-mail: [email protected], if you're going out any time in January.
Thanks!

I am 21 years old going to school in Laramie originally from Casper.. I have a gas auger tip ups and quite a bit of other stuff ... I guide fly fisherman durin the summers and live to ice fish during the winter.. I am a walleye guy but realy I just like to catch fish! Big fish are even better ;) .. I have been trying to figure hattie out but its been bending me over hard since it iced up .. We did extremely well with flies the 3 weeks before it froze and now i cant catch a fish to save my life. So if anyone that is in the same boat or actually knows the lake i would love to figure it out!

I guess i will follow MM's orders about identifying people on the ice LOL. I fish by myself probably half the time. I'm either in a blue Dodge Megacab or a gold GMC sierra extended cab...and its usually dirty ;) . I always have a "Keeper Deluxe" chair with me out on the ice. Whether my dad's sitting on it or me. It's a chair with a tackle box, if you will, built in. (I'm sure most of you have seen them but if not there you go). Let's see, I'm always in all camo. Always have seclusion bibs on and most of the time the coat as well but as nice as it was the last few I was out I was down to my sweatshirt that is realtree something and says "CARROLL" across the front. I got this goofy lookin' beany for christmas that's blue with flames on it but it has now turned into my fishing hat. Live in Green River and almost ALWAYS fish the Flaming Gorge. Here's a pic.

mike from cody.  I drive a silver dodge, that was last cleaned in July...of '05.  Have a frabill guardian, that I fish out of.  If a flag goes up you won't see me calmly get my minnow bucket and ice scoop and go sauntering over to catch a fish.  I still run and scream at the flag like a dork.  Usually fish with my 6 year old son, who likes to run and scream too.

Usually fish the plains lakes but wanna try to hit the alpine lakes one of these days, particularly Owen. Usually fish for whatever's biting, and will occasionally keep one or two to stink up a frying pan.

Hi folks, John here. I live just south of Cheyenne.  ;) (yeah, my license plate sports a green bar along the top.)  1999 green superduty crewcab.  When I'm heavy I'll have an Argo on tracks with a black canvas top.  When light I usually drag a fishtrap.  See me in my Argo and want a ride?  Wave me down - no problem.  Got an ATV/sled and want to pull my fishtrap for me?  Stop for that too!  ;D  (summertime: green Lund - in case there are summer fisherman on here too.)  Use to ice fish Glendo all the time but haven't been in a couple years.  Often alone so I rarely have anyone to dump fish stories on.

Hey! I have this whole week off, not sure when you were planning on fishing. I'll be heading to the Gorge mostly, tomorrow open water shore fishing south of pipeline. Possibly Fremont in Pinedale the end of the week to get ready for the derby. Message me!

If you come to the gorge I'll make sure you get to meet that 307fisherman up there ^^^ and myself....and I've been told that's a treat.

In all seriousness for her first time out I would go to whichever lake is fishing the best. Nothing worse then wanting to go ice fishing and not catching anything. besides of course sitting at the house and not being out on the ice.

Samantha,Maybe you should take her to Bass, sounds like you and the farmer did pretty good there. There hasn't been much chatter around here about alcova and pathy but both of those ,as you know are real good producers of trout.I bet you could show her a good time at either one if you get a day the wind dont blow.Have fun and stay safe

I am 25 and usually bring my 2 year old son along to Firehole at the Gorge. If everything works out as planned I will be at Firehole Friday evening chasing the burbs with the whole family. Hopefully the Buddy will heat up our Clam well enough to serve as a playpen for the kids while I do my best to hand drill holes and not to get skunked. So if anybody sees the Family Circus/For Better or Worse taking place on the ice, please offer to drill us a few holes and we will share some of our grub!

I am Jay(35), haven't been ice fishing in at least 16 years.  My college days and ski bum days are over and its time to start doing the family friendly stuff again. Dads ice fishing gear has been in the barn for at least 15 years, so I think I am going to have to buy all new gear this year. Planning on a trip to boysen this next week (probably thursday). Back in the day we did well in the coves around trout bay. Haven't heard much about the area but I figure I will give it a try. I will be in the grey gmc. and will most likely be pulling my 2 year old in his sled checking lines.

I am still a nube here so I cant pm you back I guess wyofarmer. My old mans gear is the 3 stick tip ups. I think they were home made. probably depends on what they were made of. If they are pine they are probably a little on the moldy side.  The Jiffy auger is going to take some major work to get running.  It only ran half the time 16 years ago, so not very hope full on that end .

Keyhole is coming up and Boysen is to. Anyone want to team up and see how we do?  I have ruffly 25plus tip ups, 5-10 ice poles, two augers 8" and 10", small stand up fribill ice shanty and a heavy duty one that we built for hattie that wont blow away. Its heavy but can sleep in it.  Don't have a forwheeler.  So I walk and pull my gear.  Also has anyone heard about healy I've been working around the clock so haven't payed much attention. I hope I didn't miss it.

I havn't heard a lot of good about Boysen here lately and Ocean isn't much better. If you want to be left alone and drown some minners, hit Ocean. Boysen might have a slightly better chance hooking something. Good luck!

I am 21 years old going to school in Laramie originally from Casper.. I have a gas auger tip ups and quite a bit of other stuff ... I guide fly fisherman durin the summers and live to ice fish during the winter.. I am a walleye guy but realy I just like to catch fish! Big fish are even better .. I have been trying to figure hattie out but its been bending me over hard since it iced up .. We did extremely well with flies the 3 weeks before it froze and now i cant catch a fish to save my life. So if anyone that is in the same boat or actually knows the lake i would love to figure it out!

Willie, It's Seth Lee.  How's it going buddy??  Should try to get together on the ice one of these days!!  Holler at me if you want to hit Pathy or Seminoe one weekend.

Hey all. Newbie here. I'm Dave from sheridan. I've mostly been fishing tongue river rez up in Montana so far. Tagging along with my buddy jeff. This is my first year ice fishing and i'm slowly getting gear together. But what i lack in gear i try to make up for by doing as much of the work as i can. So if you want somebody to pack your gear hit me up. I'm up for any sheridan area lakes. Also if you see me on the lake i'm the tall younger guy with the goatee fishing with the older shorter guy. I drive a silver dodge but most of the time we're in jeff's green dodge.

Welcome to the Wyoming Shanty Boowee! I don't get down to that part of the State often though I'm certain you'll be meeting fellow IS members close to you. My son is a volunteer firefighter back home, so a huge thanks for your community service!
Thanks for the welcome, I'll probably make it up to your part of the state sometime this hardwater season so maybe I'll see ya' out there.

Reside in Cheyenne, but I'm already looking at my Wyoming Atlas & Gazetteer and planning on places to drive to this winter.  This is obviously my first Wyoming ice fishing year so It'll take me some time I'm sure to find my favorite spots.  But I'm pumped to get started.

Well by Wyoming standards you;re not too far from a number of good spots. Glendo can be good, but sketchy ice at times. Then there's Boysen and Ocean near Riverton and there are threads on fishing around Laramie as well. You might give the fellers at PK Lures (http://www.pklures.com/index.php) a holler (ofc pick up some rainbow Flutterfish lures in 3/8oz too!) they're from Cheyenne and do a TON of hardwater. Between the Wyoming Fishing Reports and Conditions (http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?board=205.0) thread and a few contacts here, you'll find many places to set up on.

Welcome Boowee! I'm also from Cheyenne. Granite and Crystal usually have sturdy ice early in the season. Don't count out Sloans, with a variety of fish and large rainbows it can be fun. Start watching the threads for updates on all the lakes closer to Thanksgiving. Hope to see you out on the ice!

Put the boat away and moved the hut into prep mode. I have a new Lowrance Elite 5 ice with GPS and look foreward to putting it to work. The challenge this year is fishing totally new water with the low water conditions.

New to the site as of last year, but didn't have time to post much due to finishing the basement of our house and my wife giving birth to our first child. Currently live in Riverton and work as a hydrologist. Grew up in glacial lake country in northeast SD ice fishing for walleye, perch, and pike.  Needless to say, that spoiled me, so I've spent most of my time on the ice out here chasing trout and largemouth bass. Usually fish alone, but am eager to try out Bull and Dinwoody Lakes on the reservation for trout and ling. If anybody plans on hitting those two lakes with regularity this winter or needs a fishing partner for anywhere else in the area, shoot me a message because I'd definitely be up for splitting gas and bringing equipment (i.e., big flip over shack, gas auger, heater, Marcum LX-5, tons of poles, etc.) Thanks, and tight lines to all!

Gonna be heading up to the Snowies and possibly Owen Saturday! Have to test out the new gear and make sure everything is in working order. Probably going to try to fish high but if the road is closed will resort to Owen. I'll be in Red Eskimo Pop-up style hut with a small Plywood/ski sled, and red dodge mega cab pick up with CO plates (I know :) ) Let me know if you'll be up there!

I'm thinking about running up to Custer, SD Wens. AM 12/12, hit Stockade and Bismark. (Perch, bass, crappies and northerns) if someone would like to check it out. I will stop by the Osage Power plant and LAK and check the ice on the way by. Will be back around darkish. Leaving from Moorcroft.

Hey Guys, I'm new to WY (recently relocated to Casper with my job promotion) and would like to get out and ice fish - problem is, I have NO IDEA where to go... I was a very active ice fisherman back in South Dakota, I have everything I need to ice fish.   Would any of you be willing to meet up (I'm willing to travel around the state).  I'd  like to make some new friends and learn the area better....

A little bit about me - I'm married,39,  2 kids, moved to Casper in March from SE South Dakota, was an avid ice fisherman there, love to archery hunt whitetail deer also pheasant/goose/duck hunt... I work for Meadow Gold Dairy and manage 5 sites in the state, so I travel alot - I plan on keeping my ice fishing gear in my truck so I can ice fish while travelling...

I don't have a WY license as of yet, but can be easily obtained. I can't bring much in the way of equipment, but I can bring any micro brew/ fish attractant. Hook a fellow fisherman up!

Hey, new to the area, but definitely have experience fishing hard water. Grew up in Eastern SD fishing all the great perch and walleye lakes. Hoping to try my hand on some lakes around Wyoming. I'm living around the Casper area so definitely interested in trying Alcova and Pathfinder. I've got some gear, but working on finishing the rest of the collection. If you know anyone looking to upgrade their Auger or Shack, send me a PM as I am all for buying used.

The past 2 days have been 30mph wind with 40mph gusts, I can only imagine some shacks sliding across the ice when I  see this wind. Good luck fishing.

Welcome to the Ice Shanty Chipper77! There are quite a few in your area who would certainly help you out, but if you ever get up to the Gillette or Buffalo area I'd be more than happy to take you out on the ice. All you would need are warm clothes as I have plenty of gear and shelters if needed.  Use some of my gear, see what you like, and then start picking up a few pieces as you need them.

Thanks massNtrash.  I know what you mean. I've been reading old post for a while and had learned a lot.  All of this is new to me being from East Texas. It's fun though.  I have spent a lot of money already but being ex military I bought more than I should just because trying to be prepared for every situation.  If you're ever in Casper let me know I always love having a cold one and BS'ing.

Well, soon Buffalo Bill Reservoir will freeze over and some folks will go out to fish.  I would like to go out but I have no auger and I don't think they let me shoot a hole into the Ice LoL...  So who is going and can you share an Auger with a friend?

It will be me and Susy's first time out on the Ice as I am from Florida....

Also, I not only want to fish for Trout.. but Walleye.. I have an experimental lure that I think works great... tried it at Deaver and got good results...so
let me know if anyone will be available after the freeze...  Also I am going to make a new YouTube video of our Ice Fishing Experience so I think it will be cool... hope to go this year..

Thanks and good fishing out there...

Hey guys and gals! I live in Jackson Hole and typically fish the surrounding lakes, especially Jackson Lake and Palisades down south near Alpine and is also located in Idaho (so an Idaho license is needed when heading out there). This year I'd like to get more familiar with different lakes and expand my horizons. I'm thinking about sledding up to Brooks Lake on Togwotee Pass and try to get down to Fremont near Pinedale.

This is my first post and SO happy to have found this amazing site while researching the new red and black FatFish Eskimo 767i that I purchased vs. the 949i. So look for that on the ice if you're ever in the area. Usually I'm the only one or 1 of very few on the lakes. I drive a red Toyota Tacoma.

Jackson Lake Report: I went out yesterday afternoon on Catholic Bay. There's about 6-8" of ice and somebody had already been out there to drill 6 holes, but only about 40 yards off the shoreline. This is the first part of the lake to freeze. I would say it's still a bit unsafe to waltz out there. Hopefully with the single-digit and below zero temps we've had, this weekend or next will be go time!

This weekend I'm venturing out of my comfort zone and heading to keyhole. I have fished this lake in the summer, but never hard water. Driving a blue dodge 24' enclosed trailer. I am specifically targeting northerns. But crappie and walleyed are cool also. Yellow 4 wheeler, blue pop up, and frabill flip over, stop and say hello.

Hey guys and gals! I just turned 35, have all my own gear and fish mostly around Jackson Hole and Palisades near Alpine, Wyoming. I'm will to try a few new places this winter to expand my horizons. I'm thinking Brooks lake up on Togwotee Pass, which is a snowmobile in only during the winter. I guess you could walk that and pull your stuff in, too. But that would be a workout! I'm also wanting to get down around Pinedale and check out some of those lakes. Could be fun! Hit me up on the Jackson/Teton or Palisades forums where I'm usually active or just PM me. Happy fishing!

Hell of a perch Doz601! I have caught a handful over 2 pounds but cheated and went to cascade to do it. Best I've done out of Wyoming I think is 1.5 or so. I actually won the perch category of the iceshanty tourney last year with a 16 1/2" 2.64 pound monster I caught on Cascade.

Doz, you'll hate this. This is the only 15"er I've ever witnessed get pulled out. Granted we didn't show him off well in the pic but he was closer to 15 1/2 than 15 1/4. We ate him and never weighed him. After getting home I looked up the perch record and saw it was 15 1/4. I don't think this fish had the girth to be the record and maybe not even 2 lbs, but it's fun to say we ate the record hahaha.

Good job Trent and pops. There are some hogs in there. We’ve been hitting keyhole pretty hard. Brought home a nice limit of panfish on Monday and probably gonna spend Christmas Day up there. Might hit pathfinder tomorrow after church. Stay safe

This was a couple years ago and my soon to be step dad. His name is Randy Calkins and is the one with the lake trout record so he's got the gift lol.

Hey guys...? You're awesome!

Would you mind if I replicate your "Invites/Find Me" as a WI version? One of the best parts of fishing is the social aspect. The one where you actually meet people face to face and spend some time. I had the opportunity to do that this year with a guy from here and I can't wait to do it again. And it doesn't matter who until they prove otherwise. Had a great time with kayl and will do that again!

Two thumbs up Wyomingites!

I've been going solo to desmet on the north end every weekend day for six weeks now and plan to do so until the ice is gone. if anyone ever wants to join or is bored of also being solo i am there in a blue dodge from before sun up to sundown. never hurts to meet another fellow ice fisherman and maybe even share tips and tricks.

If anyone wants a fishing partner, looking for new spots to film videos for the channel, and do some awesome fishing, of course. Looking for someone who knows their body of water and is willing to have a pleasant person to fish with, dragging along camera gear :)

Hey Wyoicehole! Loving your YouTube channel. I fish SE/Central Wyoming all the time during open water season, and mostly stick to SE region through the ice but looking to venture to the central part of the state this season. I'd love to join in on some trips with you or others! Based out of Fort Collins, CO and willing to travel.

I’ll be out on keyhole the next 3 days. Not exactly sure where, it’s my first time on keyhole. Will be in a black lifted crew cab f150 and a blue/grey clam flip over. Also shoot me a pm on here if you’d like to meet up.

Looking for a partner to fish the keyhole tournament  the weekend of January 20th. Preferably  someone that can fish lol. I have the garmin a two man otter and extra flasher if needed. It's a two man tournament. Would be great if the partner had some transportation  for on the ice. Been doing well and will have the 2 days before the tournament off if said person wants to pre fish a couple days. Need to be signed up before the 15th
