Bump
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

Surprised this hasn't been bumped, given the weird "winter" we've had.  All my taps went in Saturday and Sunday and I've pulled 22 gallons of sap so far.  Looks like first boil on Saturday...

Until last year, after I skimmed through this thread, I never even noticed all the trees that get tapped just outside of Portland. Sure makes me want some syrup, but that is a lot of work boiling!

It's not that bad, get a snapper and a big pot. You can get them at wal mart cheap. Get it boiling and you can kick around while it boils down. Once it gets evaporated to a certain point transfer into a pot on the stove then you need to babysit it.

First boil of the season.  28 gallons yielded 6 pints, just what I was expecting.  Before you question my counting skills, yes, there are 8 jars in the pic.  They're 12oz jars...  ;D

Good looking stuff Keychain and that's a great yield compared to a lot I'm hearing, seems to be a lot of 1% sap out there currently. :'(

Who knows... maybe I'm just leaving it too thin and that's why I'm getting "more"...  ;D

I may have to boil again BEFORE Saturday.  After finishing off the first batch Saturday, I collected another 18-19 gallons Sat-Mon.

I would totally encourage you to spend the $20 on the hydrometer if you haven't already, takes all the guess work out, best money you can spend in this addiction. @)

This is my first year sugaring, tried out one tap.  Wow, what a great time.  The kids love it and even my wife is getting into the fun.  She's already looking around for more taps to tap every tree in the neighborhood.  With only one tree, we'll be lucky to get a pint of syrup all spring.  Next year we'll get serious.

Welcome to the addiction!  I started with 10 taps a few years ago.  Put 30 out the next year.  I've somehow been able to keep that as my limit for a few years now.  Any more than that for me and it will become more work than fun.  Though there are days when I'm slogging out through the woods wondering how much "fun" it actually is...

Just to clear things up I was talking short hard shell lobsters. I can see the red hot dog. Now Clammy on the other hand may be thinking something else.

Anybody still in the game?  Anybody even get in the game to start? ;D  I wasn't going to even bother this year since we went to Florida prime sap time, thanks to my lovely bride. ;D. I had been working on building a new arch for my junk pans so couldn't resist putting 20 or so out just to see how she will preform.  Did a test run with water the other night and have high hopes but should have enough sap after today to put it to the test for real.

Hope to get some pics of the new, highly sophisticated, " homemade sap pan into lasagna syrup pan" 2 pan system in action soon. ;D

Show us some pictures, would like to see this setup. Got a quart the other day. Traded for lobsters I haven't caught yet.

Ran good today, picked up 35-40 gallons, definitely enough for a test run.  Doesn't taste like much sugar in the sap, might do a lot of boiling for little final product. :'(.

It's time to admit I have a problem... I pulled all of my taps 2 weeks ago after collecting and boiling off 95 gallons of sap.  This morning it was kinda chilly and the forecast looks a bit sappy for a few days so I hung 10 buckets back out this morning...

Great run this afternoon, tomorrow will be good also.  My sap looks great and so do the trees, not sure if I will be able to say that after 60 on Thursday.  Just left Bacon Farms, looked like a good crowd, hope all the "real" producers are fairing as well this weekend, Happy Easter guys, we will be having our own Maine Maple Sunday in the driveway tomorrow, sapping always seems to gather a crowd.  (Or is that the beer ??? ;D)

Unbelievably huge sap run for me yesterday - most ever in 24hr period I think.  Boiled all weekend, pulled the pan off last night and still have more sap stored than before I started.  I see a vacation day in my future  :)

I have never seen anything like this either Ryan, I just gathered again at lunch to see where I stood after it ran all night, best I can figure is 95 gallons from 22 taps in a 48 hr. period.  I got 60 of it down yesterday,  still have to finish and bottle, hoping I can keep this additional until Thursday, I see another big run on Wed.  I used the term "epic" run with the neighbors in the driveway a lot yesterday. ;D

Sounds great Eric! With this "epic" run should I expect double the sap you usually send me? 😎

Thought about putting a few out yesterday but just got an invite to Moosehead for a few days, so I think I'll wait.  Looks like this week would probably be some sappy weather though...
