Lake Champlain Ice Conditions Thread
« on: Jan 01, 2022, 12:10 PM »
Would it be a good idea to have a thread for Lake Champlain ice conditions?
Maybe a separate thread for non-Champlain conditions?
I can start. As of New Year's Even 12/31/2021...

Swanton, Church Rd / Swanton-Alburgh Bridge Area: 5-7 inches solid ice. Plenty of people out, mostly close-ish to shore. One guy with a wheeler very close to shore.

Malletts Bay: Inner Bay wide open. Frozen maybe a hundred feet out from the launch/ Champlain Marina area. Outer Bay wide open except heard some guys fishing a little ways out on south side of Sandbar.

Dillenbeck: Heard 4" and some guys out, not confirmed by me personally.

Sandbar, South Side: Heard some guys out, also not confirmed by me personally.

Does anyone know about:
Keeler's
Cowbanks
Carry
Really anything in the islands! Let me know.

I fished Carry bay on Friday. 4-5" of solid black ice everywhere we drilled. Didn't stray too far from the South end access.

Did a little road fishing today . Surprised to see Van Everest was all iced over with a thin layer . Hope the wind stays calm Pretty much the same along Georgia shore to St. Albans bay. Some people out on ice in front of the town park and black bridge .

Fished Keelers today. 6.5 inches at about 300 yards out. People were fishing well beyond me.

Today, Saturday, 2022-01-08:

Carry Bay - 6 - 8"
The Gut - Barely iced over, looked like
Inner and Outer Malletts - barely closed up last night, someone fishing close to shore at Malletts launch

Anyone out by the island at Keeler's?

South Bay is being fished.
Can I go fishing? Unless it’s on Brant, I can’t.

Well pretty much everywhere will be safe for this weekend. Not much need for this thread after these temps!
Inner / Outer Malletts locked up now, probably safe by weekend. All bays in islands fishable, not sure yet about main part of Inland Sea (Cowbanks etc) but probably close.

Just checked the main channel in a few spots between Whitehall and Dresden. 2" solid black ice all three spots water looked somewhat clear. Anybody been by singing cedars or larrabees?

I got out on Champlain for the first time this afternoon after it started warming up. Inner Malletts Bay had a solid 7-8 inches of clear black ice.

There is almost no snow cover and the ice is super smooth so cleats were necessary, though I'm sure that will change after tomorrow's incoming snow.

Drove down there yesterday afternoon. Didn’t have my auger but there was two trucks in the lot  and a few guy fishing. Snow didn’t look as deep as I expected but have no idea how much ice there is. Would guess it’s safe but can’t say for sure. Good luck

Anyone know whether they're driving trucks on Missiquoi Bay ? Ice thickness?

Drove by Missisquoi today. Nobody fishing near Sandy Point but there were tracks on the ice at the launch and a few trucks up by Donaldson Point.

They have trucks and campers all over the East side. The West side there was 10-12 trucks all out in Campbells by the west branch of Missisqoui.
