Yeah the wife and I were going to go a few years back but something came up, like our wedding plans. Definitely looks like a blast but I tend to get a little serious at fishing derbies. After its all over I kick up and relax. One year I will make it there but when I go I will be fishing hard. I like to prefish derbies for 7 days prior to derby day. That way I see if I can establish fish patterns, preferences etc.

The Bob Harkins has only been in summer for the last 2 years. I would hope they may consider an ice derby. The hogsback is small but will let you know if I find out.

I recognized the name Leech Lake from an old Outdoor Life or similar mag. from the '70's   and an article called "The Week The Muskies Went Wild".  I found this reference.

In the magazine article there were more pictures....people pushing a wheelbarrow with you-know-what overflowing.  Hey, try to remember it was 1955 and there was no c+r anywhere for anything!  I think it was like that everywhere.  In the pioneer days there was game a-plenty right? Then what happened?  Hunted to near extinction.  Same with fur, fish, timber, you name it and we've tried to eliminate it through greed and ignorance.  The Sask. govt. only put a limit on 'eelpout' about 5 or 6 years ago I think, or they'd be gone too.

Oh yeah I know what you mean. The same would apply today only now there's laws. Just because you catch lots of them doesn't mean there's lots there. Like on a local river. You can catch 25 bull trout on any given day but try doing it 2 days in a row. They're easy to catch, not numerous. Opposite with rainbows, you can catch 10 a day in GOOD spot, and you could probably do that every day. Lots of them. People in general are ignorant. I hear stories of truckloads of grayling leaving some of our northern rivers in the 60's and 70's. Some of those rivers just don't have grayling in them anymore. People are more educated now but it still goes on.
