Here is an emailI received from Mike Cox  Attorney Gen in Michagan. My guess is if you filled out the petition you received one also. Call the White House 202-456-1414 !!

Urgent Notice
Call the White House on Monday!

On Monday in Washington, D.C., President Obama's staff is holding a closed-door meeting about what actions the federal government might take to stop Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes. While you can't see what happens in the meeting, you can call the White House at 202-456-1414 to voice your opinion.

Make Your Opinion Clear: Close The Locks And Stop Asian Carp From Entering The Great Lakes

If everyone who signed up at StopAsianCarp.com called the White House at 202-456-1414, the President would hear from thousands of people in the Midwest who want the locks closed and the Great Lakes protected.

Call Monday: 202-456-1414

So, on Monday morning, please grab your phone and dial 202-456-1414. Call the White House. Tell them you know there is a closed-door meeting about Asian carp today but you want your voice heard.

Permanently close the locks in Chicago before Asian carp can get into Lake Michigan and beyond, ruining our lakes and killing thousands of jobs.

Rumors of a federal plan that would leave the locks open most days have begun to be published in media reports. For example, under one scenario the locks would be open four days per week and closed three days. This makes no more sense than keeping criminals in jail four days a week and hoping nothing bad happens on the other three days. When will the emphasis be placed on protecting the Great Lakes instead of the narrow interests of one state?

Thank You For Your Help

Your vocal efforts on this issue have helped raise the level of attention paid to this crisis here in Michigan, across the Midwest and now in Washington. As our multi-state lawsuit continues before the U.S. Supreme Court, we can only hope that officials in charge will change their stance and announce immediate steps to close the locks and move toward a permanent separation of the Mississippi River and Great Lakes basins. With your help, we can make that happen.

Sincerely,

Mike Cox
Michigan Attorney General

I hope those invasive fish can be stopped.  Great lakes remain a great fishery....BUT this may be more destructive than the lamprey invasion!

From Mike Cox : For those that fish in the Great Lakes and tributaries. A suggestion is to keep writing the newpapers and keep the Asian carp in the headlines. At the bottom of this page is a list of newspapers an their email addresses. We need to keep up the pressure on our legislatures to stop this invasive species from ruining the Great Lakes.

An Update For You On Asian Carp

Your efforts are helping Michigan in the battle to keep Asian carp in Chicago and out of the Great Lakes. While our court case before the U.S. Supreme Court continues, did you know that President Obama could simply make a choice today to close the locks, at least until we are satisfied there is a plan that will protect our lakes and our jobs? We need him to hear our voices loud and clear.

One way you have done that is by attending one of the three Asian carp forums we have held around Michigan. In Traverse City, I joined Cong. Dave Camp and several environmental and economic experts to talk with nearly 200 area residents and help them become activists on this vital issue. I was then joined by Cong. Vern Ehlers in Grand Rapids and Cong. Fred Upton in St. Joseph. You can see some of the stories below. Other meetings are being planned, so we hope to see you soon.

Another Way For You To Help Stop Asian Carp

Another way you can help us put pressure on President Obama and Illinois authorities is to write a letter to your area newspaper to make your voice heard. If all of us speak up on behalf of the Great Lakes, we can make a real impact. It is our responsibility to be good stewards of the Great Lakes, to ensure that our children and grandchildren can enjoy the Great Lakes as well.

Below you will find a list of links to many newspapers around Michigan. Please take a few minutes to send a letter explaining that you support our efforts to force Illinois to close the Chicago locks and produce a plan that will truly protect the Great Lakes. Copy us on your e-mail if you are able at [email protected].

Thank You For Your Efforts

While we wait for action by the Supreme Court, your efforts in the court of public opinion will make a difference. Thank you for your help, and I hope to see you at a future Asian carp town hall meeting.

Sincerely,
