Hello, i'm new here so can't see the reports
I'm driving to Nelson Reservoir next weekend, and wondering is it's fine to drive on? Thanks
-
You can see them:)
-
Call West Side Sports in Malta 406-654-1611, they should be able to tell you.
-
Sounds fun.
-
There are some pressure ridges on the east side, avoid them and you should be fine.
-
Okay thanks!
I only know of the the one spot on the east side to drive on. Is there a better spot then?
Thanks

boat ramp in the main campground works

Quite a bit of snow on the lake now. We actually pulled just onto the ice near shore and went through a layer of slush and got stuck in the truck. Had to get help to get out. Even with well below zero temps there was enough snow to insulate that slush. We had a fairly difficult time getting around with 4 wheelers with tires. Tracks are going on the wheelers now. Fishing was super slow! 2/8-2/11.

Oh wow, glad you got out.
Was that slush by the campground? I’ve planned this trip with my son for a while, starting to second guess it! Last thing I want it to get stuck on the ice
-
Not by the campground. We access way south of there. I think the slush has to do with the rain that they got back around the time of the tournament. Wherever the water ponded got covered up with snow and even though the temps have been way cold, the snow insulated the water, and that's why we got stuck. Hard to say where those spots are now unless you saw it happen. We still went ahead and just skirted the "bad spot" on the 4 wheelers and had no problem except that with the tires the snow was deep enough that we had a semi hard time going. Ice was 18" thick.

Well heading there today, hopefully catching fish tomorrow
-
Lets us know how you do,want to get back up there!!
-
just so you know, Nelson Res. is a very Dangerous place to drive on the ice,
-
Never fished there either
-
Was just there this last weekend, 20"+ of good ice. Fishing is still slow, not many on the ice with the temps. Walleye were deep, 30-40 feet and finicky bite. Spearing pike was not bad in the shallows, quite a few through the hole.
-
any slush issues?
-
No slush where we were, on the north end. Only used a snowmobile to get around though, too much snow to get around with tires very easily. Were a few side by sides running around.

Imagine what it looks like now! :o
