SKEGEMOG 2023
« on: Jan 14, 2023, 10:55 AM »
I checked Skegemog this morning   :icefish:

A few guys were fishing.

I forgot my tape but that is an 8" auger.

I have a pulled hammy, so I don't want to rush it. If there was just a little bit more ice I would probably rush it though. ;)

Remember you do need a park pass, and don't park between the signs reserved for police and emergency vehicles.
(they handed out some tickets last year)

Its a late one this year, but everyone have a great season!

Good Luck all

Can anyone confirm they are fishing Skegemog with machines or Long Lake on foot?

I would absolutely doubt machines as the shore ice has been iffy, ill be checking long Saturday alone with skegemog, and potentially a few others

Fished Skegemog this morning Saturday 02-04-23

About 6" of ice with little to no snow cover, bring your cleats.

Quads, sleds and a snowdog were on the ice.

Got one 10" and seven just over 8" the rest were smaller.

12 fow with a minnow on the dead stick and a jig on the other rod.

Seen 4 flags go off but didn't see any fish caught.

Lots of parking when I got there, full lot when I left.

There was also a feathered friend in a tree nearby who would apricate any left over minnows :)

Good Luck all

Thinking about hitting the skeg tomorrow.  Anyone know how the ice is holding up today? Id imagine its probably still ok for walking for now.

Haven't fished there since about 5 years ago when me and my dad went out in an old clam pop up shanty. You know, the blue rectangle ones with the poles that pop out. Wind was probably blowing 20-30 mph that day and we didnt own a portable heater at that point. Nor did we own a flasher or sonar unit of any kind, a power auger, or any other high tech gear. And yet, we brought home a nice mess of 7-9 inch perch by sightfishing and pulling away from the dinks. Not the biggest fish but I was able to scrape some filets off them. Thanks to that trip and some bluegill fishing excursions in the area around that time I became addicted to ice fishing and now own thousands of dollars worth of gear lol.

Ive fished skegemog 4 times now and walked away with 1 keeper, seen some hogs pass by, but i just have bad luck there, i feel like its a body of water that benefits you to have knowledge of the lake, maybe im wrong who knows

Same with me on Houghton. Been there 3 times over the years. Zeros each time. I'm done.

It was nice clear hard ice on Saturday, even with the warmer weather you should be fine. But as always, use a spud and be safe.
Let us know how you do.
good luck all
