drill auger
« on: Sep 09, 2020, 01:00 PM »
I jumped on the Milwaukee special on the deals post. It said that it came with 2-5.0AH batteries but came with 2-2.0AH. Is 2ah big enough to drill with?

Can you use the same charger for 9AH as the 2AH?

You will be disappointed in the performance ..it may work on thin ice .. but will eventfully cut out or run out of juice quickly...what drill are you pairing it with Lazer Mora other ?

it'll depend on what type and size auger your're going to spin with it...4-5" auger can do a decent amount of holes (20-30 depending on ice thickness and outside temp) with 2ah

considering a 5ah m18 battery is like $65 you might have been better off just buying the $100 off + 5% +pick a tool special 2804 from Blains

On top of not cutting many holes  i would think there will be  drill cut out issues also.

Just saw the sale on the deals thread. Funny that it mentions both 2ah and 5ah batteries.

And I have never seen the M18 drill listed as a Auto Drill. But that may be because Toolopia is “The Mechanic’s Shop”

I’d be interested in knowing the model number (wasn’t listed). With the model number you can go to the Milwaukee site and confirm the torque. I would do that next, given the battery confusion.

Apologies, I meant the model number from the back of the drill itself. That item number appears to be Toolopi’s. Probably the part number as well.

Found another auto tool distributor who had the same part number

https://www.eautotools.com/Milwaukee-Electric-Tools-Part-Number-2991-23-p/mlw2991-23.htm

The drill is the 2803-20, which has the 1,200 in/lbs of torque

Sorry to hear it only came with 2ah batteries

Hope he is not stuck with it ...maybe a battery deal will pop up ..some Milwaukee outdoor equipment should start popping up soon if he should need a yard tool with a bigger battery

Just a note...there are two types of Milwaukee lithium batteries. One is the “Lithium Ion”, and the other, (newer model), “Milwaukee Red Lithium”. The latter is supposed to have an enhanced system for a longer battery life. That said, the performance of the Red Lithium might be better than the regular Milwaukee Lithium Ion battery, and if handled properly, should be able to get more than 10 holes on a charge depending on what size auger you are using. I have the 2-AH and the 5-AH batteries on a 6” Nils and 6” Mini Nero. I’ll let you know about their performance as soon as there is fishable ice. I believe the described kit comes with the Red Lithium, 2-AH batteries. Other variables to consider other than the auger size, is the thickness of the ice, and condition of the blades etc.

Depends on a person's fishing 'style'  I have two 2-AH batts on a 6" Mora. I get about 15 holes in about 2 ft of ice, more on thinner ice of course. That is quite enough for me. I don't want to move any more than that.

If you want great drill power get the M18 6Ah $75, 8Ah $125 or 12Ah $175. They use the new 21700 battery verses the 18650 battery as in the 2, 4, 5, 9 Ah batteries. Shorter charge time and twice the discharge amp power. The M18 2803 drill is the drill/driver 1200 ip version. The other popular version is the 2804 same basic drill only the Hammer driver version. 2803 is lighter in weight. The -20 is a tool only and -22 is the tool with battery version.

The charge times are based on the  charger and newer battery cells for the Super Charger..although all the Milwaukee batteries will charge on this charger the speedy charge is only for the new celled battery I believe

Not sure you need a ice anchor drill for your shelter(s) but get your self a refurbished Milwaukee drill brushed or non brushed paired with your 2ah battery for EZPZ anchor install.
