LAKE WINNEBAGO - Several vehicles have fallen through the ice of Lake Winnebago Saturday morning, killing one man.
In Calumet County, the sheriff's department says around 7:30, three vehicles were traveling on plowed roads on the lake off Fire Lane 8 in Town of Harrison and fell through the ice. Officials say of the three people riding in one vehicle, two escaped on their own, but the third fell into the water and was pulled out by a dive team. The 59-year-old Appleton area man was taken to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, where he was pronounced dead. The man's name has not been released, pending notification of family. His vehicle was submerged in about 16 feet of water.
The other two vehicles each only had one person inside. Both of those people escaped on their own.
Sheriff's crews also responded to a report of a fourth vehicle through the ice not far from the location of the first three incidents. No further information was available on that incident.
Meanwhile, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office confirms two vehicles went through the ice south of Pipe this morning. No one was seriously hurt in those incidents.
A FOX 11 viewer sent in a photo from Fond du Lac County, possibly of one of the incidents there. FOX 11 incorrectly identified that photo as coming from Calumet County Saturday morning.
Sheriff's officials are recommending extreme caution for anyone traveling on the ice because recent warm weather has caused conditions to deteriorate.
