Catching crawdads or scuds?
« on: Dec 12, 2015, 02:10 PM »
Has anyone tried catching crawdads through winter? I know they become pretty lethargic in the cold but my friend last year did catch one while jigging last year randomly.
How about scuds. Does anyone fish with them through the ice and how or where do you get them?

I see crawfish cruising bottoms of reservoirs all the time and catchem when bored! Don't use them for bait though and scuds are probly best to buy at a fly shop I tied some up a few days ago and will tryem tomorrow they are pretty small so couldn't imagine trying to put them on a hook!  live ones that is

Trout seek out scuds like crazy in shallow water under the ice. Using grass shrimp works well -- they look very similar
