What do you prefer on your tip ups and tip downs--treble hooks or single baitholder hooks? ???
-
i'm still not sure. i've been trying both for years. sometimes, one works better than the other. :-\
-
I prefer a small treble. I beleive they are size 14..
-
Small treble hooks, size is dependent on minnow size, under the dorsal fin.
-
I use two prong hooks and thread the minnow so that both barbs are sticking up just behind the head. If a fish doesn't let it go, nearly 100% hookup.
-
it all depends on what I am fishing. while fishing for pike on tip ups I will use a large treble, size 2 i believe. If i am fishing for walleye on tip up I will use a single barbed baitholder. this past week I was fishing for pike with a large treble rigged up with two fatheads and caught my largest walleye. I am thinking about trying some small trebles for the walleyes though.

Has anyone had luck with the Octopus style live bait hooks?
I have mainly used treble hooks the last few years and wanted to try a single hook. The Octopus style hooks look like they would work well due to the short shank and wide gap.

I just tied on octopus circle hooks onto 3 out of 5 of my tip-ups. Unfortunately I have only gotten flags on the ones with the trebles so I am still undecided. When I do have some good info I will report back.
