beginners guide to walleye fishing?

Never really targeted them before but would love to try it this year. Any tips or tricks or gear advice for a new eye guy?

Small shiners near the bottom w/ tipup, position traps in a line covering various depths.

I have a bunch of the DVD's and watch them every few months.  Learn something new every time I watch them.  My advice is go to a body of water that has a good walleye population and try a little bit of everything you have read.  Let the fish tell you what they want, they will always be the best teacher of their habits.

Buy a couple different colors of glow jigging shad raps. Go to a known walleye spot and drill holes late in the afternoon going up into 2 or 3 FOW. At sundown you need to be moving around with your flasher and working with that Rap. You will usually find them in deeper and move shallow with them as it gets darker. Fish until well after dark.

Don't fish without a flasher.
Be mobile and drill many holes well ahead of time.
When you find active eyes after sundown, catchin's easy. Never ceases to amaze me how far they come when a big Shad Rap is falling.
