Shore Lunch Fish Batter.
« on: Jan 09, 2017, 07:05 PM »
Maybe this has already been discussed but just wanted to let everyone that uses know Shore Lunch Batter that there has been a recall on certain upc numbers.
#24739 11000 is the only number I have. I will try to find out the other ones.

Bobber,  what's better?   Seems I try a different type each time.   I remember the old favorite, Shake and Bake Fish, then they quit making it many years ago.  Haven't found anything like it since.  Always looking for something better.

That's my favorite. I like to mix the cajun and the original. I have like 6 boxes right now. Better check them.

I really like the dry mix called 'Fryin Magic'.. 'Andy's Red' is good, too -- a little crunchier. Sometimes I mix both together and it works well. Just toss the filets in the dry mix and then into the cast iron pan. I've tried a lot of diff mixes and those 2 are our favs..

Season some flour with old bay to taste
Beaten eggs
Finely crushed saltines, I use a food processor.  Season cracker crumbs with old bay and cayenne if you want Cajun style

1. Dredge fillets in seasoned flour
2. Dredge fillets in beaten whole eggs
3. Dredge fillets in crushed saltines.
4. Fry

Try it..it's easy and awesome
I fish a lot....I catch a little.

Yep i mix the original with the Cajun too 1 cup to 1 cup. Have tried them all. Always go back to Shore Lunch. My wife always buys the large box of the Original which is not on the list. Will have to check the 9oz boxes of Cajun later. Thanks for the heads up. I had salmonella poisoning many years ago. It is no fun!

If you are deep frying it wouldn't that kill the salmonella? I have a bunch of boxes of the shore lunch Cajun. We eat a few boxes already and nobody got sick as far as I know?

yes, deep frying will kill salmonella.... however I believe salmonella usually is moved by cross contamination (i.e. touch the raw chicken then cut the tomatoes.

that being said I just ate one of the "bad" boxes 2 nights ago...deep fried... no problems here....

Make your own. Alot of different spices and things you can add to your batter to make it your own. There should be a couple of batter recipes in the cooking section here. You can start with those and change them up to your preference if you like.

I combine original shore lunch, fry magic (a little crunchier batter), some Cajun shore lunch, and sometimes if I can find it the Italian shore lunch. Then the wife adds whatever other spices she feels like that day. Have yet to have it turn out bad...

Golden Dipt beer batter or Fry Crisp. NOT healthy by any means. Sometimes I alter the seasonings to my liking.
I love big honkers! Giant Canadian etc...
