My parents live on Chateaugay lake I know for sure that will have good ice still and many of the other northern lakes . May have to go try some new water for walleye !

Wish I could have taken Friday off from work guy I fish with down here got on the hard stuff.

Chance to visit Bartel Rd B&T today while wife had me up in Syracuse Christmas shopping.  Great folks there with good selection and better than box store pricing.  Just like my favorite local Southern Tier gun shop, Rob the owner drops what he's doing to welcome you to the shop and have a chat.  Knowledge and personality are both top notch. Great to have another local family owned business able to compete and offer what the locals want.  Great stop, great people...will definitely pass the word and definitely be back.  Thanks Rob and wife (sorry didn't get your name).  See you next time I'm up.

The wind doesn't look bad today and tomorrow, so I'm optimistic.  Fingers crossed!

The ice is compromised by water soaking into it, plus shes floating, with added run off, its no longer locked too the edges ........any real wind will destroy it, they had 45mph winds in the forecast for late today, but a coastal low is forming, robbing the winds from this storm, winds stay under 20mph, she'll probably make it.   Christmas eve day in the teens and below zero Christmas morning should have her tightened up nicely, straight north winds wrapping around this storm will restrict the lake effect too, could be a snow free mid week.  I made it out weds for 2 hours with Fred and most of the day Thursday with Fred and Stormy, ice was 2.5 to 3.5 inches and a few 4 inch spots, made it too 26 fow....I got a ton of pins and some nice jumbos, but dumped my only keeper eyes screwing around with a moonshine and some new spoons, should of stuck with raps.

We were the only guys out weds.

 Few Jumbos from weds afternoon

Like SNAGGER said, they cut back the wind forecast quite a bit for tonight. We might get lucky. It is 38 here in Constantia not in the 50s.

Could be good if the ice holds until the temps drop.  From the sounds of the reports I'd say Oneida may be iffy Christmas Eve.  Thinking I should head to Chaumont...might ruin Christmas for the family if I die Christmas Eve...then again, maybe some might have their best Christmas ever ;D

Fished Chaumont Saturday and my friend that lives on the bay says it has not gone above freezing since our latest warm up. Never got above 28 on Saturday when I was there.  6-8 inches of ice, of which about 3-5 is crap.  Where I was there was 3 inches of good ice, but I didn't get out past 17'.  Typical Chaumont day, a lot of 7.5" - 8.5" fish with a few 9"+ up to 11" mixed in...very few.

No, had to work.  I saw Brian was out there.  Would've liked to fish with you guys but I wasn't sure about the ice, so I played it safe.

I caught a lot of pin pike this year late from my boat.  More than I can ever recall.  Have to assume that's a good sign, because there was no shortage of keeper 'eyes either.

Stopped at Bartel Road Bait and met some more IS'er fishermen today, Shout out to Sully and BHammer. It is always nice to put a face with a name and to grab a hand shake.  I canned the trip up north today and did some river fishing. Got a few at Lock 23 and none at Phoenix. Got enough for a small platter of "Poor Man's Shrimp" w/ cocktail sauce. Yum! @) @) @) @) @) @) @) @) @)
good to finally meet you Boggy1 !! good to see you to hammer !!
there was about 30 fishermen on big bay today ???. i'm giving it a couple days.   Sully...

Hello all, just logged on for first time this year.  Can't believe lake has been fishable all ready.  Great week for making ice coming up. Merry Christmas to everyone and let's enjoy an over due long ice season.
