Ice fishing Lake Erie

Where is the best place to enter Lake Erie from for ice fishing? I would like to fish it this winter but have no knowledge of where to go or what tackle to use.

Ontario Canada, Ohio, Michigan, New York...

Magee Marsh and Catawba State Park are two popular spots.  Hasn't been any ice the past two years...Erie is a whole different animal though, as compared to inland lakes.  Big pressure cracks, currents, and reefs all come in to play.  If it's your first Erie trip, buddy up witih someone experienced, or better yet, hire a guide.  Don't end up a headline.

On an average year when does Erie start freezing and how long is the typical ice season?  I know there's a lot of factors that plays into it just curios. Me and a couple buddies want to try it in the Ohio area if it gets ice this year.

Beginning of February - Week or two into March.  Anything else is bonus

Depends on what species and what state your from.. please fill us in.. also add your location to your location under your screen name I think you can fill it in under the profile tab on the sites tool bar..
