Im in as long as the work schedule allows it. Spirit would be my pick...perch during the day and walleyes in the evening doesn't get any better than that

How y'all feel about a former Iowan who stepped down a level on the podium and moved to NE fishing in this bad boy? :-) I'm organizing one here in NE (Pierce, NE -about and hour+ west of Sioux City). This is for all Iceshanty posters of course (and anyone else who would like to fish a little different body of H2O than Iowa...these are man made reservoirs...structure galore. If anyone is interested, let me know...I'd help you out with some tips and possibly a place to crash if you didn't want to get up at 3 am.

Well Mr Hawk that sounds tempting. I fished the lake in Pierce only once. We camped there are as a family once also. Nice place. My wife is from Pierce, so I think that it wouldn't be hard to make it over that way if I let her go to. Does that lake get much ice? I remember there being some trees a little to the west and everyone would camp out over them with their boats. Is that still a good area?

Well, It looks like if we do and Iowa Outting it should be at the IGL since it looks like that's what most wanted. Problem now is what date should we all pick?

? Heck when is the Ice going to be here.

Good Lord willing I'll try it next Saturday. For sure by the 12th. January would be best let everyone get past the holidays and us locals to get a pattern going to put the new guys on fish. 23-24th maybe?

Esox since your from the area, and fish the IGL all the time we definately should have it on a week end or time period when you can make it. So.....you still thinking Jan. 23-24?

I'm always around I don't have the want or need to travel to catch supper. I fish every weekend of the year almost.Late Jan also gives us plenty of build time so we can drive out instead of having to walk out or find quads and sleds to drag stuff. On Spirit being able to drive outs a big plus. Having to drag a mile out or more sux. Only weekend I woul;d shy away from is the 30th THats winter games weekend and the area will be packed with drunks.

Just to throw this out there... I don't know how many from around here this will effect but the Ice tourney in Brainerd is the weekend of the 23, and 24th is the make up date. Was thinking about going, but if the get together goes on that weekend, i would probably stay around here. Just a little heads up...

.the .igls are in Dickenson county, in NW Iowa.The town of Milford is on the south end and The town of Spirit Lake is on the north

No matter what date is picked someone will be doing something, all a guy can do is pick a day and hope for the best. Any weekend but the 17th works for me, I got a kids ice thing to help with in MN that weekend.

Let's Shoot for the 23rd of Jan. for the big day. Then if a couple of guys were close or wanted to stay over we could also have a little get together on the 24th for guys that couldn't make it on the 23rd.

From the road, I could see that Templar, the Grade, Little Spirit, East Lake from at least Pioneer Beach north, Loon lake in So. Mn., are capped, and part of Anglers Bay is iced over. Didn't look real clear, pretty white, not sure if snow covered or just not good ice. I didn't have any gear to check thickness, but I see along the grade in a couple spots someone threw baseball-softball sized rocks onto the ice and they were sitting on top anyway (wasn't me)not very scientific but it is something If anybody checks thickness tomorrow can you let me know, trying to convince the wife to let me go on Sunday, she says gotta have at least 4-5 inches (of ice ) before she ok's it.

noticed that too around my place ponds freezing up, but not clear ice it's white.....

why is that?
