Clam plate Bolts
« on: Nov 28, 2018, 03:57 PM »
I just got my clam plate and assembled it. It says in the instructions there is a M12 Socket head Bolt and 5 MM Allen wrench or wing bolt. So I didn't get that. Is it a 1/4" bolt and nut? This is to attach the auger to the shaft.

Side not. My Mini Nero Extension did not fit this shaft and so I manufactured a sleeve to go into the Nero adapter and it fit nice and tight.
THE BAD: I now know why my Nero 7" made 7 3/8" holes. My extension is bent. It is bent 1/4" from one end to the other. I have no clue how it got bent or if it came that way. I don't remember doing anything to bend it.

Would one of these things work instead of a bolt and nut?

So I guess I can but one of those. If it hold that Auger bit on it will certainly hold my Nero on.

An M12 is a metric designation.  An M12 bolt is almost twice the diameter of a 1/4" bolt.  A 1/4" bolt is .250 inch and an M12 bolt is .472 inch.

No bolt or Allen wrench in my new one I just got either. Just figured I would use the wing bolt from the 8 inch lazer I'm going to use

i don't think they come with the bolt you are thinking of.  i got a clam last year or end of year before and i had to use the big wing bolt from my hand auger.

Oops I totally misread this, I meant the extension sorry. My plate did not include something to attach the auger to the plate. The Nero extension didn't attach to it anyways, the spindle on the plate stuck down too far to fit the Nero extension so I had to buy the Clam one.

So it looks like they left out the bolt they say is supplied.#6 on the Assembly. Assembly is now complete and the auger drill plate assembly is ready to accept whatever auger you'd like to mount on the motor shaft with the supplied M12 socket head bolt and 5 MM allen wrench or wing bolt.

What you show in the photos is NOT a shoulder bolt.  The bolt in the photos is called a "socket head cap screw".  Most likely a metric thread.

that bolt that you think is a bolt for the auger is not. it is the bolt used for the trigger where it hooks to the vertical plate that the drill hooks to. the it is the black l bracket. the other two bolts are for holding the bracket to the plate. the plate does not come with a bolt for the auger. you use either the wing nut bolt that is on the handle of the auger or you have the option to use a regular bolt instead if you don't plan to remove the auger all the time. you do how every get both a wing nut bolt and the regular bolt when you buy the extension for the plate and auger.

I call it an Allen Screw, The wrench is what you tighten it with. Although they call it a hex Key.

Update

I called Clam about bolt and allen wrench in instructions.    He laughed and said "is that still in there".    There are not included with the Clam plate.   Meanwhile I order the Clam extension from Amazon.   It came yesterday,  had the extension piece,  wing nut,   2 bolts,  and the allen screw(hex wrench) that fits the bolts.  Can setup auger without any wing nuts sticking out if I want.
