Do bluegill bite at night?
« on: Mar 04, 2011, 12:44 PM »
I know crappie fishing can be very good at night, but I heard bluegill don't bite at night. What are real facts on bluegills in the dark? Thanks!

Wait until summer. Put a lantern over the water youre fishing and they will come to it.When  we fish for Trout at nite with the lantern they come right up to the boat and bite on our bait. As for winter. I think ur outta luck.

Think you have a better chance during the morning and evening.  Have had a couple of nights where I have almost caught my limit while fishing for crappies.  So it can be done.

I've caught them at night while targeting Crappie by lantern light but I certainly wouldn't target them at night with the idea that night fishing would be more productive than daytime or low light periods.

shine a light down or suspend a underwater light from a central hole, cut holes 2-4 feet from the central one and jig away.
HINT** why do you think they make "glow-in-the-dark" jigs for?

Although the bite may not be as fast as during daylight conditions, they WILL bite at night!

Ive caught them at night trolling for walleye with crawler harness. But just once in a while.  Once and a while ice fishing after dark for specks.
I have two fishing buddy's that know all my secrets. But they wont tell all they do is wag there tails.

I think you are better off in the daytime.  They like to find a place to hide and hope they don't get picked off.
