Last year I drove to Marquette before I found ice. That's about 7 hours from my house. I have the urge for a road trip and was wondering if there is any ice to drill?   ???

Gwinn will have ice before Marquette does, but yesterday it was in the low 40's so that undid any freezing that was happening. however the next week up here is supposed to at highs of very low 30's and high 20's with lows in the teens to mid singles. so i guess we'll see what that does.

Marty at Gwinn bait shop told me the ice wasn't ready yet. He helped me out last year when I was trying to find ice. Very helpful. Will get my business anytime I'm up there.

marty has also helped me out before too, good guy and for anyone that goes to that area  to fish should definitely give him your business if you need bait, extra jigs. etc, very good guy.

I third that.  We took a trip to the big shagg last year to find ice and nailed pike and 1 monster walleye with his advice, shiners and frozen smelt.  A great time checked out a couple of other lakes too and will be back.

there will be ice in houghton and keweenaw counties, (most northern counties in U.P.) on most smaller lakes. this would be 4 - 5 hours north of the bridge.

YD--And the ice isn't getting messed up by all the snow?

before the snow i heard of many small lakes around marquette being frozen and fished. however, idk how that snow affected the ice now. but the temps are still good for producing more. anyone hear anything?

Lots of snow on the lakes now so look for slush and not much more good ice being made.  Be careful.

Looks like everyone is getting the bug.  Teal looks promising other than the snow.  I'm curious to see if anyone pulls out a laker.  Hopefully I'll be able to get out there once a week seeing as how I live two blocks away.  Good luck to anyone who goes out this weekend and be sure to post conditions!

Before the snow i heard reports of 4-5inches of ice by the boat launch on teal, but i never went to look myself so its just hear say, other than that I've heard Harlow lake is 3-5inches right now.

I fished a lake in baraga county today. there was a good 4-6 inchs of ice but there also was alot of snow and some slush on the ice. Just gotta watch it the first hole i cut it didnt take much the other ones worked ok. I didnt end up getting any only had a couple  out and wasnt really to worried about catching fish lol.

Will be getting in to it a lil bit more now i will try to get some walleye and hopefully soon i will be able to use the sled to get out and across the ice.

Must fishing conditions are getting better. It's after 10:30 a.m. and no one from the UP is posting.
Hopefully that is good news!
