Are there any DISadvantages to red hooks?
« on: Jan 30, 2014, 08:18 AM »
I've had plenty of luck with plain #6 or #8 trebles on my rigs, but my buddy's swear by a red mono or flouro leader and same size red trebles. On days with a good bite we are fairly even, but on the slow days they are the ones with the flags. I'm thinkin about switching up to the red rig myself, but the question is does it work for other species (trout walleye perch) or just for what we've been targeting (pike, tigers, bass)?

I dont think the color makes alot of difference.

I have heard of hooks that glow in the dark and people seem to be having success with.

I believe the hook catches the fishes eye and when they come in for close inspection, they find your bait. A bait they may have never encountered had they not seen the hook.

This isnt the case for every fish, since some see rather poorly while others see very well.  Either way I would try them out, see what happens.

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

I'm gonna experiment with em on the lakers. I've had good luck with plain little baby #12's a foot off the bottom in 90fow, but I changed all my rig's of for a pike tournament last weekend (total skunk fest). I'm gonna do 2 tipups with the #12's then I'm gonna try either red circle hooks or red trebles on the other 3. Do a little mix n match for a couple trips to see what happens.

If you wanna try glow in the dark, stop by walmart and buy some glow in the dark nail polish and paint a section of hook.

If you decide you dont like it, you can scrape it off.

That stank smell from nailpolish wont deter the fish? I know when my girl starts to do her nails I'm out the door.
