Walleye Through the Ice After Dark?
« on: Dec 17, 2014, 01:27 PM »
When you're out ice fishing for walleye, what time is best? Sure sunrise and sunset are hot. But what about staying out till well after dark? WHEN the ice finally seals up Saginaw Bay, I plan on making a trip over there for perch and walleye. I usually fish off Palmer Rd. but is there another good spot to try?

The first hour of darkness is usually pretty hot!!

I have caught them just fine though after dark, I haven't tried past 10:00 PM though...

Thanks for the reply, I am planning on making a trip over to Saginaw Bay and have a good hot spot for perch off Palmer Rd. I have never really fished for walleye before and plan on giving it a shot. I figure they move into shallower water when the sun is going down to feed. I have a few tip ups I am going to rig with a 14 lb. leader that I put the strike indicator lights on. Hopefully the ice will set and stay this time???
