Burbot in WI
« on: Nov 25, 2008, 11:11 PM »
Ok, I have lived in WI nearly all my life except for a couple yeas in Oregon, and I have never heard of Burbot in WI until I just read it in aother post. Anyone out there in WI that fishes for these? If so,  where and how?

I was born and raised in Wisconsin and caught lots of burbot "laywers."  I could never figure out why they were considered trash fish there, but I'm pretty sure it's the water quality...  We would catch a fair number of them fishing lakes Poyan, Butte des Mortes, Winneseptic, Michigan, and Fox River.  Usually caught them at night while walleye fishing, and REALLY caught them in the spring during the annual spawning runs!

I don't think I would be keeping any fish from a lake with Septic in the name either!!   ;D

Try Green Bays east shore at dusk, burbot heaven at times. I also have picked quite a few in Deadhorse bay on the west side of the bay.

Heres a deadhorse bay pout on the line.

Anything further west at all? Or is it all in Wisconsin's east central areas?
