well......I took my best friend and his 4 1/2 year old son fishing today.....It was little Nick's first time out "pike fishing"......he was full of energy at 5AM.....and he had one of those banner days!!

here is nick running for his first flag

he gets to the trap and I yell "SET IT"

he then naturally, and with no instructions, starts hand-over-handing it in

keep in mind this is Nick's first flag EVER! He caught some crappie jigging last year....but this is first official flag

we had 3 flags pop at once, so his dad was tending to his traps when Nick yarded his first Pike in his life through the hole

before I can even get his trap baited, he takes off for another flag....he fell 3 times

but here was the result (with help from Dad this time)

I ran to the shack to get bait, when my jig rod went off and I landed this nice fish right outside the door.....I set the camera up on the bench and set the timer so I could grab a quick pic before I released it

I turned around to see Nick barreling for another flag....the FAR OUTER!

notice the treble hook....right in the lip

Nick also caught a crawdad on a treble hook $:-\$

overall Nick caught 11 Pike on his first day out

he was all smiles when we got into the truck

5 minutes later (litterally)

That is an outstanding story and set of pictures. Great to see the kid having so much fun! My son just turned 3. The other night, I was showing him some pictures of me and his uncle ice fishing and he said the words that are sure to make any father proud: "Daddy, I want to go fishing with you." Yep, it's gonna be a great summer.

O ya! I talked to him today and the first words out of his mouth was "I caught more fish than you Uncle Ben....hahahha" just like his Dad

Thats awsome. Ive got a 7 month old that im waitin to get just a little bit older so I can take her fishing with me . I cant wait to take her out on the ice for the first time.. Those are the days you will cherish for all time.

just had to bring this back.........Nick is a lot older now....Orange belt in karate.........caught a striper this summer.........and he is going togue fishing with us next Thursday. Ryan (nick's brother) is 3 and ready for his first mackerel trip this summer. If you want to get kids into fishing.....mackerel from a boat with chum will get them hooked

40+ flags! That sounds like a very exciting and suspenseful day! Nice set of pike you got there!
