Any one own the marcum LX-5???
« on: Sep 29, 2007, 05:01 PM »
I just got mine in the mail was reading instructions (which I'm sure will be clear once I get it on the ice).Anyway, I didn't know the transducer would read through the ice. How well does it work? Will it just give you depth or will it read fish as well. I also need ice in a bad way.. Hope it gets cold soon.

as long as you have clear ice and a little water to pour on the ice it works excellent. it will read the depth , show the fish, and tell you wether you have a hard or soft  bottom  ...once the ice gets too thick or has lots of bubbles in it you will not get a good reading

I use mine like that first ice works good and you don't get the line wrapped around the transducer.

You can build a shanty for pretty cheap.I have great design I can draw you up some plans if you want. Its a little heavy but fishes two nicely. I also know a great deal on a 2005 polaris sportman 600 with less than 300 miles on it. Your on your own with the auger. I'm right in the middle of negotiations for my own auger that I NEED!!!!!

Later man
