Hey everyone, im new on here and fish conesus lake pretty frequently. ive got a place at the south end and have been focusing on walleye recently with very minimal success, had one hit on a spoon and minnow head off a point in 38ft at 730am. anyone else targeting them? been drilling lots of holes and covering water
-
Not been out, but thinking of hitting mid lake @ the public launch near Hartson S Gully area. Looking to fish a break near deeper water, put flags out shallower and fish out deeper?
Willing to share info.
-
id be interested to hear whats at mid lake. we have set tip ups from 15-45 either near bottom and half way down and jigged til our arms were falling off ???
-
I have been working in the area so I stopped by long point for a couple hours...Marked NO fish in the twenty s, thirties & forties. Dropped raps, spoons & even mud bugs at least for a perch bite. NOTHING -zero fish.
-
i guess the panfish all move to the north end this time of year. we picked up one rock bass off a point. i have not found anything other than some random pike. a few marks in the morning and evening that could have been eyes but we havnt spotted any perch or gills. ive fished the drop offs, points and open water ???

4 years ago we were fishing the south end and some guys kid jigged a7/8 pounder out of 40feet. It was really random. I’ve targeted them dozens of times with no success. Open and hard water, they’re really tough to catch in Conesus. I gave up trying.
-
That’s was me haha. Definitely random. Marked a fish up 15ft off the bottom and reeled up to it and it hit a gold Swedish pimple. Fought like a boot coming up.
-
so it seems there really isnt a pattern, depth or even area to focus on. im gunna continue to try and catch one til the ice is gone. we have been on the lake 12 years and ive seen 2 walleye caught in the spring on the same day by my buddy in 4ft of water on small suckers.....

Silver and Conesus have real nice size walleyes and I have caught them Spring and into Summer, but forget it when it comes to Winter. I have tried both lakes over the years and know of other walleye guys that have given it a try and not much luck. We now head to Honeyoe, Chautauqua or Oneida

There were 3 days about 5 years ago my brother and I thought we had figured out something with Conesus walleye where we caught a handful of good-sized fish but in subsequent years we've tried the same place at the same time using the same techniques and have not gotten one.
-
They are not easy to pin point due to the fact that they chase Alewife around the lake.
-
it looks like its just gunna take drilling a ton of holes and trying different baits

That's how Conesus goes. While open water fishing I have had plenty of times where you hit one, focus on that spot, and that presentation and you can hammer them. Come back the next day and you can't get a bite. I've seen it during the day time, and after dark. Pretty much if you can find them feeding they are catchable, but that is the trick, finding them.

Fished the south end in 20fow for them this AM, figured they might be staging to spawn in the inlet. As soon as the ice melts they will be in there
Marked a few fish and they looked but weren't too interested.

Stoped by Teds Sun, guy sai there was a 14+ on the tourney board Wrong info must have been the pike. Though the are some slobs in there

No walleye were entered in the derby at all

525 entries and 37 hours of fishing blows my mind that one wasn't caught.....

And that answers the initial question of ice fishing Walleyes in Conesus!

I fished in the Derby for a few years years ago when Bob had the bait shop. Not once did I see the Walleye prize claimed.Same thing hundreds of entries all weekend of fishing 0 Walleyes.I would say the Walleye fishing then was better than it is now.Open water spring fishing can be good or it can humble you.
