What are your ice fishing goals this season?
« on: Oct 28, 2006, 12:34 PM »
Hey guys that cool air is getting cooler as the Fall starts drawing to an end.  What are your goals for this upcoming season?
First goal is to get a 30+ Pike on a tip up.  I'm not a big tip up guy but hey there's always a first time for everything!

To catch 35 muskies through the ice, one of which I would like to be 50" or 30 pounds.

Simple:
1. Enjoy my time on the ice.
2. Enjoy it as many times as I can do it.
3. Enjoy the times with friends.

Catching fish just makes it more enjoyable.

To finally get this guy out on the ice (my boy):

His mom battled me on this for years. This year he will be finally going ice fishing with his Dad. I can't wait.

my goals vary from year to year as well as change as the season goes on. One big goal of mine for this season was to rent an on ice overnight shanty. I have been talking the talk for two years but I finally took th plunge this year and booked for first ice.

A smaller goal is to learn more of my local lake, last season I made the move to Kingston and thus had to learn a new home lake, last year I had a great time fishing but just did not get around the lake enough to learn the far side.

another goal is to get my Dad on the ice, we live closer now and he is not an ice fisherman, so it;s time for son to teach the father

Last year was my very first year of ice fishing ever and I am addicted to it!!  This year I would like to buy a gas powered auger, get a few more tip-ups and catch a pike through the ice.  I used a couple of tip-ups last year but never caught anything on them.  Maybe this year my luck will change.

This year I definitely have to spend some time in Wisconsin.  I bought the out of state license for $60 in the spring and only used it once salmon fishing.  Wisconsin gets early ice and it stays longer.  I'd like to find a nice lake 1 - 2 hours from Buffalo Grove with some nice size gills and crappie.  An overnight stay or two might also be in the cards.

Real easy (to list and accomplish, providing we get ice)

* To be safe  (most important)
* To get on the ice several time a week
* To hit a few lakes I haven't tried yet
* To enjoy all of my trips on the ice
* To ensure gf enjoys herself ( possibly the hardest to do)

Providing I have the right bait, I'm in the right location, the fish are in the right mood, and any other variables are right, I'm going to catch a few fish.  I would like to catch a few nice walleyes this year, but other than that, just have a great time!!!

Yes I have when I targeted them here. Best has been LARGE dead bait or live LARGE sucker under tip-up's. But it is hard to choose that over the large panfish & walleyes when jigging. Oh and the ice fishing here for catfish is phenomenal!

Where do you do most of your ice fishing?

Hi Gang!
Hi Valleye, I have two goals this year.  One is to fish 100 days or nights!  Two is to find a regular partner for the ice tournaments I fish in.  I am doing 22 tournaments this season.  I am traveling from Bay DeNock all the way around the lake to Lake Cadilliac for tournaments.  It would be great to find a partner to have tag along with me.  I am going it alone or with a partner.  But it would be fun with two.

Hey Roc,

Its Val dude...... You still looking for a partner?  Have you tried eharmony I know many that have found a life long partner.  If not try match.com  ;D ;D ;D

Did you look at the chicago area fishing websites.  If you place a post on them you may find a partner.  Good luck dude.  let me know how your search goes.  Hey guys if you are looking to fish tournaments this season Da Roc is an accomplished "Icenik" he would be an excellent partner for anyone interested in tourney fishing!!!!!

I want to catch a Walleye through the ice. It's hard to catch them during open water on the little lake I fish close to home. I got some jiggin' spoons and a few jiggin' Raps. Gotta upsize my bait for them. I already upgraded my depth finder to an Aqua-Vu VPG from an old Lowrance LFP-150 Flasher. and I also got an underwater camera to use. Also got new boots to keep my tootsies warm. And I put gliders on the bottom of my HT sled.

To catch lots of fish, already have a new auger, hut, flasher and gear, just need to catch lots of fish
