I do a lot of extreme cold weather hunting alone in remote areas where there  is no cell coverage.  For Christmas the Mrs just bought me a SPOT(Satellite GPS Safety Safety System). Cost was only $100 after rebate with annual service of $100.  Guess the Mrs does really worry about me out there!!  lol

Have tried the test messaging feature & it is outstanding plus even works in heavy timber cover etc. It will be with me at all times while out on the ice too!

I have one of these as well..  I spent two years living in Alberta, camping hiking and climbing mountains.  All four seasons of the year..  I've yet to have to actually put it to use, but its great to have handy.
