Title: Successful slabbing
Post by: vt-jig on Jan 29, 2023, 10:01 AM
My dad and I managed this haul on Carmi yesterday.  I caught the first half of them earlier in the day on soft plastics. The ole man caught up throughout the second half of the day, dead sticking minnows.

Nice haul! I don't usually, but have been thinking of doing more dead sticking for perch.

I've often overlooked DS'ing as a technique for perch as well, though I rarely bring live bait if I'm solely targeting perch.   It seemed to be a solid way to make use of the Hali jigs and the chain hook.

Well done, nice to spend some quality time with your dad enjoying the fishing. Looks like the makings of nice meal there.

Sounds like a good day on all fronts!  Any size to the pike?

One was 7 lbs 15 oz. Second one was 9 lbs 10 oz. My new pb. After a 40”+ and over ten now. I enjoy eating walleye and perch. Pike get a free return from me

Thats awesome bro. I've yet to ice one bigger than 27-28".  Biggest ever was my first one, open water back in middleschool.  30" and 6.5lbs.    Funny thing is, I'd much rather eat pike than a perch, walleye, or crappie.  Pike and Lakers, top 2 eaters for me.

Don’t be afraid to go where others aren’t fishing or where it shallower. Lot of unpressured fish in shallow water where most people don’t go

They can be a pain to fillet, but your missing out on some tasty, tasty fish.

Pike aren’t too bad to filet. Other than super slimy and stinky lol. I do eat some of the smaller mid 20”. I like to catch biggest northerns possible so I send back the big ones
