Has anyone be ice fishing on Seeley or Salmon lake this year.  How is the ice and is anyone catching anything good?

I called Rovero's (ace hardware in Seeley) yesterday,  they said that people were out fishing on both lakes.  I have not ice fished either one, so I am looking for any info also.

Hit salmon lake yesterday didnt ice a single fish in 4-5 Hours. Ice was good but varied greatly. Seemed to average 9 inches but found some as thick as 15 inches. Some slush around the edges but not terrible.

Where were you fishing on Salmon Lake?  A couple of days ago much of the snow had been blown off the north end of the lake, but there was a lot more snow, and presumably a lot more slush, on the south end of the lake.

I am interested in going after pike at the northern part of the lake, did you fish up north?

Thanks!

On New Year's Day, nobody I know of caught any pike at the north end of the lake, but everybody stayed pretty close to the boat ramp because slush and snow made it difficult to travel further.

Thank you for the update. My son and I are heading up there this Saturday.   Still haven’t decided if I’ll fish Salmon or Seeley.    I’ll make sure to update this thread with our results.

Do you know what part of the lake?   And what he is using for bait?

Thanks!

You guys ought to report this information on the Seeley Lake and Salmon Lake pages of the Montana Fishing Reports and Conditions sub-forum, rather than in this general sub-forum.

Hey all, I've never fished either of these lakes. Is one better than the other for pike numbers?
