You are lucky will save a good amount of money not having to pay for inspections or permits. I assume you did some studying on plumbing and electrical wiring before under taking the cabin build.

Hope the vacation is going well. Has to great to get an extended period of time to work on the build and also take some time to relax. Do you have to make a supply run or did you bring enough "beer"? Looking forward to your next round of pictures...h2l

Got a bunch of stuff done over the last week.
First section of insulation in the ceiling done.

Got the first bunch of soffit boards on the West side installed.

And a bunch more ready to go.

Got the grout done on my hearth finally.

And the stove in place.
Need to finish with the West side exterior before I can get the chimney installed though.

Master bedroom wiring and insulation is done.

Lower section of the front wall electrical and insulation done.

Did I mention wiring?

Drifter-016/Dave, you have been busy man. Any reason you choose wood over vinyl for your soffits.(I do like the look) Also do you have to drill holes in some of the soffit boards and the cover with some type of screened vent so moisture can escape I see you have foam channels installed between roof rafters which I assume will connect with a roof ridge vent. I forgot you have chosen to go with a high tech design pellet stove. Best to you with remaining vacation time.

I chose the cedar for the looks and to match all my trim.
I don't like vinyl at all. Ugly stuff and melts easily if there is a fire any where near it.
There was a fire in town at a set of apartments and the neighbouring building 50-70 feet away had all it's siding melt off.
I would just need to worry about my window frames.  :-\
The North and South soffit will have venting.
I'm not going to say what until it's done. ;)

Thank you for the explanation of the cedar vs vinyl. I think the cedar looks better. That cabin is coming along nicely. Thank you for sharing the pictures.

Dave, I think the cedar looks great, but it also will repel insects. The rest of the cabin is coming along, you've done a lot of work
in the short time this week.

My biggest concern through this project is that I might pass before Dave finishes his cabin.  After all, many of us are on the clock.  I hope for all of us old timers that Dave picks up the pace, lest we die with a hole in our hearts from an unfinished cabin...

No pressure Dave.  Just sayin’.   :roflmao:

Got the West end soffit completed on the main part of the roof today.
Now I can put the fascia on and install my SAT dishes.
Then finish the siding and trim work before disassembling all that scaffolding and moving it again.

Dave thank you for today's cabin update. I agree the cedar in soffits does blend well with the trim on windows on corners of cabin. Is my memory correct that eventually the plywood below siding will be covered with rock/stone. So it gives the impression cabin is built on a rock/stone foundation. Be safe and keep up the good work.

You are correct the area below the siding will eventually get covered with river rock veneer. The area behind the pellet stove will get the same. I will stain it when I get a chance and it will get the stone after everything else is done.

Yesterday was a resupply day so no work. Did get out fishing for a bit after dinner though.
Fish were super aggressive. Lost more than I landed but it was fun.
Today was a rain day so I slept in and did inside work. Roughed in the closet in my bedroom.

Got the ceiling light wired in.
It's a recessed housing that runs a low voltage mr16 bulb.
I bypass the 110 to 12 volt transformer and go direct and hook to 12 volt DC system.
It's currently running off one of my flasher batteries. :)

I also got the lighting in the closet temporarily hooked up.
They run of 5 volts DC through a DC to DC converter off the 12 volt system.
Right now they are running off the battery that came in the packaging to demonstrate the light.
There was a little push button on the package.

Outdoor work tomorrow.
