Night fishing
« on: Jan 05, 2013, 12:35 PM »
Tried fishing walleyes on Red Lake for first time last two nights. Lost one at the hole first night. Went to same exact spot second night and caught a nice 22 inch fish.

If you are fishing for waldo at night leave your white light flashlight home. get a green or red light. they are more light sensitive at night than during the day.

Nice! I'm dying to get out on my favorite lake to chase some nighttime walters!

Best time is at night! I like sucker minnows half way down. They go nuts for big bait at nite.

I am completely ignorant to night time walleye fishing. Is there a time like dusk during the fall or is it sporadic? Do you guys have reflective tape on tip ups? Any depth seem more productive or do they seem to hang in the middle no matter the depth? Brother and I were talking about last ngiht after a bunch of guys showed while we were packing. Sounds like it could be the way to go. Appreciate any suggestions.

I usually like dropoffs near shallow bays, I use a flourocarbon leader with a split shot on the leader, small minnow a couple feet off bottom.  Be careful with light and try not to make much noise around your tipups.

Have you ever used any other type or color leader? I also usually use flourocarbon but am trying out black fused line this year as leader, any input would be great

what time at night is best? my friend caught a nice one this morning at 6 am as we were setting the tip ups...im guessing if we were an hour earlier we might have both left with a couple!!
It's not that fishing is so important, it's just that so many things in life are so much less important

No.  I have however caught them on accident with a black wire leader for pike usually early morning before real light or late afternoon into dark just being lazy and not changing rigs.  A surprise walleye is always a bonus, got a few accidentals during bass tourneys this year...the rode home with me and went swinning in the grease.... ;D

I get most eyes from dusk till dawn. Depending on when it really picks up thru the nite is a guessing game. I try to be set up an hour before dusk tho. Flats or points near deep water or big weed beds is a good bet. And like someone else said, turn off your lights! I also like big bait at nite. Hope that helps someone.

I would like to try some night fishing this year as well. Love the marble eyes. Where are some good areas to do so in cny.
