« on: Dec 31, 2017, 03:01 PM »
To my fellow Albertan's I was wondering if there is any lakes in central/southern Alberta that are any good for brook trout during hard water season??

Thanks in advance

I have never been to but have read there is Butchers Lake. Which is south of Pincher Creek.  Also there is Birch Lake (close to Rocky Mountain House).  Hope this helps.

Peppers Lake south of Ram Falls.  Rat Lake by Prairie Creek. Shuster Lake East of Wainwright. Also a few in Fairfax.

Next year you want to be after them as soon as you can walk on the ice. They will be shallow. Can still catch a few after Christmas but the best is behind us.

Birch lake just north of Burnstick has brookies, caught some last year at this time...be aware they do have the black spot disease, biologists I met there said the meat is good just not the skin...so catch and release for me.

Look at the stocking reports.

Then you'll know where all the stocked brook trout lakes are.

Only a few places have naturally reproducing populations, and they dont produce like the stocked lakes.
