Ill be out at Sauer or Chickakoo as well.  There are a few other pothole lakes in that general area that hold some pike and perch too, might try to get on them...

I wish they were still stocking chickakoo with bookies. If they were I would say chickakoo but I think I will have to say jackfish  ;D

I usually head to Mink Lake early in the season too...  Just hang out for an hour or two and pull out 100 4" perch.  Good way to get your hands back in the game for felling light bites.   Ill keep ya in the loop Costa and let you know what I'm doing.

I cant wait for freeze up. Im most likely going to hit some of the smaller trout lakes up in the foothills first. Still having some fun with the local potholes though and for the most part having them all to myself.

I'm going out tonight with jigging in hand.  I will be checking lakes west of Rocky Mtn House....

If it's frozen tonight... You can bet I'll be on ice tomorrow all day.  Sight fishing for brookies in a foot of water is pretty slick!

Hey guys, I've been a fan of the site for years and finally decided I should join. I have just moved to Gibbons in August from close to Winnipeg.  I am new to the hardwater scene here in Alberta, although I have been ice fishing all my life (34 years).  I have noticed in the few months that I have been here looking for new honey holes this fall that things are a fair bit different.  There seems to be a lot more trout and a lots less big walleye, pike, and jumbo perch.  I also have had to leave behind our cozy permanent wood burning shack and just purchased a clam switchback and a buddy heater.  Really excited that things are starting to freeze now, but I could use a little direction as to where I should maybe venture out to that's not too far (too young girls at home so I'm going to have to be around sometimes).  My in-laws do live in Cold Lake so I'll be putting in as many hours as possible when out there.  I here there are huge lakers, pike, whites, burbot, etc. Any tips for somewhere closer would be awesome.  Also, I don't know to many people out here yet and none that will wanna hit the ice, so I might be looking for a fishing buddy once and a while.  Thanks.

Hey Diceman, welcome to the forums.  Im hoping to get out onto some of the larger lakes over the next couple weeks, the -22*C they are forecasting should help with that!  As for lakes closer to Gibbons... You will get a little advice off of here, but your best bet is to go out and explore on your own.  Most of the best lakes for fishing in Alberta are far north if your looking for jumbo perch.

In Cold lake there is a road out to the lake at the marina. You will see a few miles out where most people fish in that area. I found from my times out there the fish are between 80-100 feet and finicky. Having a fish finder will increase your chances and yes the Lakers are huge. good luck and fish on!!! ;D
