Title: Tip to prevent auger from binding when drilling a hole
Post by: DANMAN on Feb 09, 2021, 09:21 PM
Especially powered augers

Tilt your auger 5  to 10 degrees off  vertical when drilling.     helps avoid blades getting bound at break thru

The rationale being ...... that a tilted auger will create a downward “leading edge” and a “trailing edge” to the hole being drilled.

Break thru will occur at the leading edge.      And not across the entire circle face of the hole

Seems to work well for me. IMO

I will give that a try. Sounds logical.

Definitely trying that- I hate when that happens, I'm always afraid that I'm going to damage the auger

I believe I may have invented this technique  ;D..all may holes tend to be at a bit of an angle ...as I put my Clam Plate out in front of me ..arms length...start to drill and then step over top of it to finish the job.
