With this lousy winter we're havin so far, and all of us jonesin with no fishable ice to be found so far. Figured some of us would appreciate an icefishing song.
......I know!,....the song is about Minnesota. But, they're probably fishin somewhere out there. Plus, at least their local media seems to embrace winter.

I'm from Southern PA, but was born and raised on a farm, so I am country. ;)  Here's a couple I did with some friends at a block party last fall. One by Hank Williams Senior and of course CCR. I'm playing harp and doing the singing. This is all unrehearsed though the guy who has Zappa hair plays in my band.

Thanks Bernie, a lot better sound in a club or bar; but we got fed and a little money so....Miss fishing the shallows at Shohola with you; guess even if there was ice it would be a new ball game this year with the draw down.

I'd be happy to be on the ice at all this year! It's been a couple years since Marsh has even had late ice. ??? Was thinking of going this morning but driving two hundred miles and fishing hard is probably not the best way to shake a cold! Good luck with your mission! Here's a Tony Joe White tune; recorded on a crappy hand held, so you have to crank it.

I Well if ya can't fish, might as well do the gigs. Was lookin forward to get out with you and Joe, but doesn't look like that's gonna happen. Went up to Duck harbor yesterday,  6" of good ice, to bad the fish were the same size  ::)l

Mighty fine Salmonrebel...mighty fine  "Family Tradition" was the theme song for my old softball team many moon ago  :'(
"Country Boy Can Survive" is our theme song for me and my friends(The Rebel Team).
Ya see it posted here often by many of us that love that song and relate to it, Iceassin. Along with many other great ones like "Family Tradition"....as that is a GREAT theme song as well. @) These songs are time-less, and when you have it in your blood, they have even more meaning. @)
Even though I like alot of rock too. It's always satisfying to listen to that old Outlaw country along with Hank sr an jr. @)
To me....that's the best country music ever made. Although there are some good newer bands/performers out there putting out good music too. Although, I would consider much of it to be more Southern Rock, than actual country.
The other that's out there/ the pop country....to me, is basically that....POP music. I really don't care for alot of it. But, it's better than that jiggy crap they keep pushin on the kids these days.

I might add. That's perty good!, VanCleaver. EXCELLENT! @)

Thanks salmonrebel, I try to play from the heart. Speaking of "Family Tradition" , my youngest brother was a professional musician who passed on way to soon. (29) I once watched him completely quiet a packed, noisy,  bar on a Fri night, with a version of "All my Rowdy Friends have settled Down." I still think of that sometimes when I need to draw on my inner strength; I think his spirit is always with me, especially when I'm on stage. The last trip we took out West together (1991) I dragged him out on high mountain lake outside of Leadville CO. He had never ice fished before, and I still have a picture of him on my desk; he's proudly holding up a small lake trout. He also performed at a local pub at the base of Copper Mountain, and later we went to a after hours party (B' lift Pub) that was pretty much all locals and us. Those were the days all right...........

Very sorry to hear that, VanCleaver.
I'm sure his spirit is with you, even more than just when your playing your music.
But. it definitely shows with your videos posted. @)

I myself never got in a band. Too much crap goin on in my earlier years. Although, I shudda pulled it together to do something. Picked up the guitar a few times through the years. Never actually learned to play. And, with aggrivation goin on at the time and nowhere to play them, I eventually sold them.
To this day,
I regret selling my natural ash(woodgrain) American made Fender Strat. :(
I do do the kareoke thing from time to time....From country songs to heavy metal. I do pretty well, from I'm told. Never had videos taken, maybe someday. :o
But, the band thing was always something I had desired to do.
I have a younger brother that plays the guitar very good. We've talked through the years about doin something, but it never happened. One reason, I know was because he got into that death metal scene for a while as a teenager thru his early 20's, an I can't stand that crap.
Tried to talk him into doing some more mainstream rock, but he wasn't into it....and I think, the thought of him havin BIG brother in the band...for at least the earlier years, wasn't his desire. Probably cause he knew big brother was always an "alfa male" an might not mix with his direction of where he mighta wanted to go with the music....as it's pretty hard to argue with big brother on most occasions! :flex:

I love making music, but making even doing occasional gigs out requires a lot of work and energy. Even more so if you have to deal with  owners and managers to get the jobs. Plus there is setting up rehearsals, promotion ,etc. (all my jobs) Way too much politics, nepotism etc. >:( Always about how many people you bring, instead of the quality of the music. Still love to play though, so even on those nights when I might only make fifty bucks, I think; what if someone said I can only pay you fifty$ to ice fish for six hours, and you have to haul your own gear? ??? Kind of a no brain er really. ;)

Yea, I've heard similiar things from some friends of mine through the years that played in bands in the local clubs around here. That'a big reason why so many good musicians never get the "big break" or stop playing publically outright. As you said, it should be about the quality of music your putting out. But, as we all know....it's all about the money, and in one shape or form, politics as well. >:(
With the "youtube" thing that's out there now-a-days....At least there's other ways of getting your music out there to be heard and seen played.

Sure seems like a good time to get the ole "Rebel Music" thread up and runnin'!
Have any good country or rock tunes that you love....Post 'em here! @)

With everything goin on right now....fiscal cliff(the economy period!), terrible mass killings, antigun media and liberals in DC blamin the guns for these terrible acts along with their pursuit of an attack on our 2nd ammendment....and the list goes on and on. Not to mention us here in NEPA patiently waitin for good ice to fish on....This song seems like a good one to get it started for this season.
