Yea, I can't wait either. I've trolled Lake Ontario for years!, this will be my first ice fishing trip up there in the bays. It is something I've wanted to do for a LONG time! The great lakes,...are definitely one of the most unbelievable inland fisheries in the country, if not the world! I would love to fish and hunt Alaska one these years as well. A Canada trip wouldn't be a bad trip either, one of these years to come. One day, we'll have to look into that...I think I'll be workin' by then! :D(lol)

Sounds like a plan!...Can't wait for next week! I wrote down a list of food for it. I'll get with you to see what else, if any other things we may want. I'm going to get the scrapple today. Since I'm thinking of it right now, and since your right near by it. At sunshine, when you go pick up some stuff for the trip, maybe check into some bacon ends, and some of that andiolli sausage/and/or/brats. Brats and Andiolli for lunch on the ice, on the grill, I know, that's a bad idea though :P, isn't it?! ;D Ice Rebel wants Bar S hotdogs instead!!Also, see if Mike can bring some of that elk meat along for the ride. Oh yea!...this is going to be a dry event?...Right?! ;D Don't forget the Pepsi! ;D Talk to ya later...SalmonRebel

You definitely, have an IN to that. I'm pretty sure Rebelfisher agrees. I will be there the rest of my life. Hopefully I get workin soon, and be able to get my own b*** up there. After going up there all these years on my dad's boat, I want to get my own going. Ice fishing the bays up there, are something, I think we're going to get hooked into as well! Heard you like those BAR-S hotdogs over brats and andiolli! :laugh:Good fishin'...SalmonRebel.

You know, Aklimbing. With ALL due respects. I would love to go ahead and tell you,...honestly, along with a few other guys I talked to on the forum. But where we're fishing, it isn't Lake Erie, if you know what I mean?...Like most of us know, you give away your 'honey-hole', to someone, and they tell 2 friends, and they tell 2 friends, and so-on, and so-on, your honey-hole, isn't a honey-hole anymore. With that said,...Harvey's lake is said to have some good eyes. They're hard to get in the warmer months, but never tried it, in the winter. They get into nice perch and gills there as well...I know we were talking about doing that sometime soon. Maybe we'll see ya' sometime...Good Fishin...SalmonRebel.

We're not sure which one(s) of the bays as of yet, but they are within our travelin' distance to where we will be staying, near rochester,...Sodus,Braddicks,or Irondequoit. A friend of ours that lives up there, and fishes them all the time, is going to let my buddy Rebelfisher know which place is producing really well, and meet up with us. The perch, will probably be the major focus, seeing that our connection up there is really knowledgable onto getting on them up there. Although, we are going to also set up tip-ups to hopefully get onto some big northerns, walleye, bass, and maybe a stray lunker trout. From what our buddy was saying, we very well could load up on the perch. As far as I'm concerned that alone will be very nice, and everything else will be a bonus. Good luck to you too ShantySitter, and you be safe, as well.

Don't forget to post your big catches of stockies, on 'the stockie report' ;D. This was posted the other day, so far, only one paly-minnow was posted! So head on over to 'the stockie report', and add your story on that stockie, you might of caught or lost. You can also add, to what you like to do with those fillets that originally came from the fish commish. concrete waterways. ;)2

Can't wait to get up to the bays. It's going to be nice, although,...20mph winds commin off the shore from what is predicted for sat...You better have some ice-anchors for that shanty, Ice Rebel...It could be alot worse, if they were comming out from the northwest. You'd be talkin 30-40mph, if that was the case. Any way it will be good, if anything,...to get away,...and a diff. scenery. :icefish:

Yes, myself, RebelFisher, and Ice Rebel, were up there this weekend. The cold-front made for some tuff fishin', below zero-single digits, and constant 30mph wind gusts on Sat., good day for shanty sailing ;D. Took half the day Sat. to find a decent bite. With that said, there wasn't overwelming numbers, especially Sat., but we caught fish, perch was what we were catching. Sun. morning headed back out, into the same general area, and got into a good bite early, then it slowed down around lunch time, and never really picked up the rest of the day,... we really thought, we might limit out early Sun...All together, between the 3 of us, I think we ended up with, about 90 perch both days combined, with, only a handful, being humpbacks. Threw back a bunch of dinks, and then, later on, on Sun. we kept some of them. Lunch on the ice was terrible on Sun. ;D,...I'm sure, all of us, plus, our other buddies that fished with us this past weekend are having terrible flashbacks of the grilled andiolli sausage, smoked kielbasa, venison, and that lousy homemade chicken soup .

I'm sorry, I should of listed that, Snagger...Irondequoit bay, is where we ended up. I'm sure if we picked a better weekend, we would have done much better. We might head back up in Feb. sometime, if our funds are available. Whether or not, we already said, that it's definitely going to be somewhere we will go again, probably for years to come.

I would also have to say for the 3 rebels that thats prob. going to be a yearly trip we are all going to have to take even though i know we had such a bad time but speaking for myself ilove to waste money. The next time we go we would have to pick a better weekend. By the way thank god you gave me that BLS cd it really sucks.

Sounds like a possibility sometime. Me, and the other Rebels were talkin about going to Onieda one of these days. Whether or not, we make it there this year, is up in the air. It's about a 3.5-4 hr. ride up 81, where we live. When I do go up there, it will probably be the 3 of us, it's cheaper to share the expenses, plus, we usually fish together anyway... What are you catchin up there,...walleye?pike?perch?calico?

What do you think about this?, Ice Rebel, and Rebelfisher?

Still a tough bite on oneida, but did manage a noon to 2 pm 4 keeper walleye flurry(lost one at the hole) Could be a start. Also the steelhead guys at my lodge absolutly crushed them at the schoolhouse hole across the street this weekend. FISH ON!

Sounds good Snagger...I was only on the forum for about a half hour sunday morning, before I met up with Ice Rebel and Rebelfisher. Headed out to Lily lake. What a waste of time. Total talley was 2 keeper perch, 10in. stockie,...oh, and Rebelfisher was onto a dink bluegill bite for a little while,...hooray! ::)

Sat., me and the other Rebels were out at the Moon Lake ice derby, held by our conservation club we belong to(Nanticoke Conservation). We landed the largest fish of the day, but didn't get into the money due to it wasn't in the categories of the payouts...It was a 5.86lb. pikeral. We probably would have placed in 3rd in the perch and calico from what we seen. But, seeing that the payouts are only for the single largest of each category, there was no point in weighing them. Our buddy that was fishing with us, also landed 2 pickeral that went over 4+ pounds. All together, we ended up with 10 pikeral, 2 keeper bass, 1 perch, 1 calico, and a stockie. Threw back about a half dozen smaller bass.

After filleting the bounty from ice-fishing yesterday...Went to BK for the BIG-FISH!,...and afterwards, I turned a new leaf. After eating that, I decided to go home, and throw away all the walleye, and pans that were in the freezer!, and that I would only eat pre-prepared foods from here on in! Seeing that, outside of only the recently stocked trout, are the only fish that could be trusted for human consumption! ;) I would rather rely on giant industry, and scientific research for food, with lots of preservatives, instead of HARVESTING! it myself! Seeing that I don't want to eat anything that might be bad for ya'. ;D

I actually grew up in Kingston. My Gramma always bought her meat from Fetch's, and now, that's where I buy a lot of mine as well. If you like it, you should try their scrapple. It's the best store bought scrapple you'll ever taste. You have to go to a farm to get better. Their smoked kielbasi and bacon is excellent too.

I remember alot of people that told me about the beer gardens as well. Alot of the towns main drags were like that around here. I only wish, that those prices were still like that...I used to meet up with alot of my older friends at the CWV POST 752 in Edwardsville. The prices there for the time were good, and the people for the most part were good company. I am still very good friends with some of those guys that are still alive, and try to spend some time with them whenever I can.

As you could tell, my view on fast food and pre-prepared foods is not one that I look forward to. That's a big reason in why I fish and hunt, not just because I love the sport, but I also love eating what I catch and kill. With all the chemicals they pump into meat these days, and the cloning that our government has allowed, it really makes you scratch your head as to what you are really eating.

Remember LARD! ;D...it's the other white meat. :-* ;D ;D

Money is REAL tight for me right now. If I'm not able to head up there this year on the ice, I will definitely be planning on it next year, and the years to come. Definitely keep in touch. I know, me and the other rebels are looking forward to going up there whenever we can. We were even talking about, maybe a warm weather trip with Rebelfisher's boat. As far as food. Me and Rebelfisher always got something really good on the menu! In the meantime...good luck to you Snagger, and talk to you again.

Hopefully we get into a good number of pans tomorrow. A big pike and(or)bass will be a nice bonus as well. The last couple daytime outings have been really slow. Drillin' all them holes, and still not finding fish to bite has been a little tiring. At least the weather was nice. Sure beats sitting home. I am sure we'll get into them tomorrow. One way or another we will find them.

Well we didn't smoke 'em out, but plenty of action. It was definitely worth the trip. Best day bite, the last 2 weeks. Can't wait to get back out to that private lake tomorrow. Hopefully we don't have to weed out too many dinks. More of them bass and calico would be nice as well.

I didn't do well after you guys left. I ended up keeping 19 gills & a 13 inch crappie. The bite got worse as the day wore on. Didn't even catch too many perch. I stayed 'till 8 PM & after dark I only got one dink perch & a miniture gill. Good luck today & I think I'm gonna wait 'till tuesday to get back out again. Hopefully the gill bite will pick up then.

We went back out Sunday, later in the morning and fished till sunset, and didn't do as good as Sat. Ended up with about 20 keeper perch and 3 gills between the 3 of us. Most of the perch were caught on our tip-ups. Got cleaned on them multiple times. We had a pretty consitent jig bite, but very lite biters. So needless to say, that accounted for a lot of the cleaned minnows off the tip-ups as well. We threw back probably anywhere about 20-30 dinks. There was a week cold front that went through the  Sat. night, so as with the other rebels, we defintely blame that, for the slow bite. Good luck to you Gillahollic, and maybe see you out there again.

The 3 of us were there last night. Ice Rebel was onto a bunch of perch with his tip-ups. I think, it was over 20 that he kept, and probably threw back as many dinks. Me and Rebelfisher jigged right next to each other and got onto a decent calico bite for a little while. He picked up about a dozen keepers, plus a few gills. And while I didn't get into as many, I picked up 2 beauties, one pushing 14inches and the other a 13 incher. We had tip-ups out too, and had a lot of dinks hitting earlier on, then we were getting our bait stripped with out even setting off the flags. Being zoned in on the jig bite, we didn't go around as often to check the tip-ups. Next time we go, we're going to concentrate on the jigging, and set up only a few tip-ups close by. Let us know how you made out. Talk to you again,...SalmonRebel.

Fished yesterday from 11AM 'till 7:30. Not many gills, no crappie & only a few perch. I didn't keep any fish because I didn't start getting them until almost dark. Tried many different spots & the gills I did get were right in the middle of the lake. Was that your holes near the outlet?

We were fishing in the same general area, that you saw us on Sat. The area, you saw Ice Rebel and Rebelfisher fishing was where Ice Rebel got into the perch Mon. night, and me and Rebelfisher were just a ways further from him in a straight line just off of that point(lots of structure). Rebelfisher tried jigging your area that you were at Sat. for a little while Sun. and only got into some dink gills. We haven't been any where else on there, except between where you were, and back where you seen me Sat. towards the other shoreline. I haven't fished that area since Sat., mainly concentrated on the shoreline off that point.  But it seems for now that whole area from were Rebelfisher and Ice Rebel were Sat.,- back beyond that point, seems to be producing. I might add, from what we saw, it didn't look like too many other people that were out were doing that good.
Hope to see you back out there again. Maybe this weekend. Hope this helps you out. Good fishin' SalmonRebel.

Gillaholic...the holes by the outlet was from one guy fishin there on sunday. he was by himself and i was watchin him...didnt seem to be picking anything up. there was also a group of guys towards my uncles dock, and they only caught a few tiny perch. It seems the best spot is anywhere from where you were on saturday up to where we were. and right in the middle of the point. There is tree braches down there (i brought my aqua vu )and our tip ups were constantly getting snagged. Id like to get there saturday well before dawn for possibly another calico bite.

Me, Ice Rebel, and Rebelfisher got to talkin' a little while ago about going out Rebelfisher's uncle's place tommorrow early in the morning. I don't think I'll be able to head out tommorrow night after the earlier trip. My vehicle is broke down, and I'm relying on the other rebels for a ride. Plus, they're hen-pecked! We fish Sylvan from time to time. If we don't meet up tommorrow. There should be another time before the ice lets up. By the way, Nuangola. For the heck of askin', are you one of Mickey's buddies, from 'Bugs and Grubs' in West Nanticoke? I'm pretty sure a couple of his buds are on the shanty. We've fished with him and a couple of his friends a few times, and I was wondering if you might be one of them.

Had a pretty slow day at Rebelfisher's uncle's place. Took all morning, moving around to find a decent bite. Between the 2 of us, ended up with about 25 perch and gills, most of them being perch. None of the fish were worth bragging about.
Early on, it was pretty chilly and windy, then later on, turned into a beautiful day.

Just figured to let you know, Gillaholic. We fished there Sat. Early morning off the point we were talkin' about, we didn't do much at all. Later in the morning we moved around back farther towards the area you walk out from. Rebelfisher went in towards the cove, off of that point, and I went to the other shoreline, where you saw me the last time. I got into a semi productive bite for a short time, while, Rebelfisher worked his way to a bit further past the middle towards the shoreline, up behind me about 200yds. My bite slowed down, and I ventured towards him. He was into a decent bite for a bit as well. I think we fished till about 2pm. We didn't make the move till later in the morning otherwise our numbers might have been better. Only ended up with about 25 keepers between both of us, nothing to write home about. I think Rebelfisher was going to give it a shot tonite. I'm sure he'll send you a line to let you know how he made out. Have a good one...SalmonRebel.

Nuangola, make sure when(if) you go to harvey's, to keep in mind about them cinderblocks that are sinking in the ice, Rebelfisher mentioned about the other day.

That is really dangerous. If these guys didn't feel like carrying them off the ice, they shouldn't of carried them out there in the first place. If nothing else, they should of drilled a hole next to one of their others, and sank them to the bottom of the lake. But then again, if they were too lazy to take them off the ice, they sure as h*** wouldn't have it in them to do that either! Be careful. Maybe I'll see you out there sat. with Rebelfisher and Ice Rebel.

Started slow. But me and Rebelfisher ended up with a decent catch. Considering the cold front that came through, we did alright. Between the 2 of us, ended up with about 30 perch, a couple nice ones, the rest just keepers,  8 bluegills, and 2 really nice size catties. The ice was about 7 inches in most places, with only 2-4 good black ice, depending on where you were at. I had a decent bite early on, over the other shoreline where you first saw me. And Rebelfisher got into a decent bite in front of his uncle's dock. After my bite died, I met up with Rebelfisher during the last hour and hooked up on some as well. We'll probably be back out for a night or 2 this coming week. It's good to see the temps goin back down for a few days. We should at least have 1 more full week to get out there at least. Maybe 2, fingers crossed.

Don't get me wrong. It wasn't nowhere near as good as it could be. We worked for them. But in the end. Ended up with a nice meal.

Hey Rebels................ I hit the lake yesterday around 10 AM & only fished 'till 6 PM. Bite was bad again. I started out where Joel fished last & then drilled about 30 more holes in different areas. I marked fish in most of the holes but they had lockjaw. I kept 10 good size gills & a couple small perch for channel catfish bait. Ice isn't very thick & I think the upcomming warm spell will kill it.

Thanks for the info Gill. We'll let you know, if we head back out there. I was thinking myself, the ice will probably be too dangerous to go out on there within a few days.
If we don't see you out on the ice again. Good luck on the open water. Maybe we'll see you out somewhere, sometime. I know, Joel talks to you on the other forum, so keep in touch. I signed onto myfishfinder.com, and I think Joel was going to sign on there as well. So keep in touch. If you want to shoot me a line, I'll be there.

salmonrebel,

I see you have been reading that post of the NY licenses going up as well.  Nice to see some one agrees with me about the local economy going to crap up there with out the support of us non-residents to pump it full.

JM

you guys ever come over to the poconos to fish at all.  I have a place where there needs to be a bunch of bass taken out of......... ;D

That's the thing, Jiggerman. Alot of people don't want to look at the BIG picture of things. Price increases are expected. But, to just peg 75%+ increases on a few areas on a proposal within one year, is not really fair. If you look at our states prices though, it makes you scratch your head? ??? I mean, I really like a lot of places I fish in NE Pa. But I'd rather be fishing Lake Ontario most of the time I go out. I think, they(NYS) might of looked at our states non-res. prices to get their figure for theirs. Maybe not, but it's a strong possibility.

As far as fishing the Poconos. We haven't. I'm not very familiar with the lakes out there. Maybe, Rebelfisher, or Ice Rebel might be. I know it's been kind of slow where we've been going. Lot of lookers, but not many takers. We try to keep it local most of time, to save some funds. It isn't like we could drop everything, and head to NYS every weekend! :D

Good to see yer back, Ice Rebel. Heard about the comp. Man, they're a pain in the ars sometimes. Give me a buzz sometime. By the way, be sure to set yourself up over on the 'myfishfinder.com' site. Me and Rebelfisher recently signed onto it for the openwater season. We'll definitely do some fishin' on the open water. Can't wait to do some trollin'.

Don't know, if you talked to Joel. But we got some more of them pickeral(northerns) yesterday again. Caught 3, missed one. 22-26 inches, 4.5-5.5lbs, 2 of them were over 5lbs. !  The jig bite was very light, and only 3 stockies were caught on them.

That picture that's on Rebelfisher's avitar, pickeral(northern) :flex:, is only 1 of 9, that we got all together this year like that. They were 22-27 inches, 4 of them were over 5lbs., the largest, 5.86lb.

All in all, a very good year, indeed.

Talked to some really good people here on the 'Shanty'. Hope to fish with some of ya'll down the line. Lots of good, down home southern hospitality was shared amongst many. ;)2

Will be over on myfishfinder.com with the rest of the Rebels. To everyone we spoke to, keep in touch.

Good luck to ya'll on the water and in the streams...SalmonRebel.
