wristsaver rods
« on: Dec 18, 2008, 11:01 PM »
my buddy went to the st.paul mn  ice fishgin show and he came back with new rod that i thought was pretty neat.  seemed to feel pretty comfy and sensitive too.  the angled handle requires the use of one of their special reels that have a curved mount, so it might be hard or expensive to replace a reel if you need to.  other than that.... they seem cool.  anyone have one?  have you used it?

I looked real close at them. I didn't like that you can only use their reels.

Very cool, has anyone fished this????  Is the absence of wrist fatigue lost in a cheap setup, or is this decent equipment????

How hard would it be to heat up and bend you own reel?

Most reel housings are cast aluminum . I doubt they could be bent without damage.

i was looking at his rod a little more nad realized you actually could put a standard shape reel on, but you would have to significantly alter your hand position so the bail doesnt hit your fingers.  i would guess this would defete the purpose of the rod, but it might work for some people if you can find a reel that is a decent size match.

I dunno...looks like too much of a gimmick to me...unless you fish it with a banjo minnow

When I ice fish I hold the rod like a pistol anyways. For a lack of a better term, "Genz style".

if you hold a normal rod like a pen you got the same hand position..

I was thinking the same thing; I use a pencil grip most all of the time anyway. If my wrist gets tired I must be slamming hundreds of pan fish. I can deal with that problem on a game time basis!

Yes sir, jigging is somehow more tiring when you aren't catching anything, and catching nothing is a lot less work.  WIERD!!!
